MORE QUALITY, MORE IDEAS, MORE OUTPUT

MORE PERFORMANCE AND CUSTOMER FOCUS: STUDIOKURBOS RELIES ON THE AGILE EFFICIENCY OF A DUAL LEADERSHIP APPROACH. IN THE UI/UX TEAM, THIS MEANS CRISTIáN ACEVEDO AND SAMUEL NAU.

?

Two agile minds are driving studiokurbos' UI/UX team forward together: Samuel Nau and Cristián Acevedo. While Samuel Nau is responsible for planning and coordinating the projects, his colleague Cristián Acevedo is the creative lead of the UI/UX team. This arrangement has proven to be very successful over the past three years.

?

WHEN TWO CAPTAINS STEER A SHIP, IT CAN LEAD TO CHAOS. HOW DOES IT WORK WITH DUAL LEADERSHIP?

Samuel Nau: It works great because we’re not both handling the steering. We have clear divisions of responsibility. I manage the numbers, like scheduling, calculations, keeping an eye on budgets, and setting milestones. I also handle creating proposals. While our leadership tasks are split, we are always in close communication and work closely together. Plus, as a designer myself, I understand the details of what’s going on.

Cristián Acevedo: My job is to oversee the content of the projects. Specifically, I focus on design quality, innovation, and bringing creative ideas to each project. I also keep an eye on the team spirit and our growth. Samuel and I frequently discuss project workflows and workloads.

?

WHAT DO CUSTOMERS GAIN FROM THE DUAL LEADERSHIP MODEL?

Cristián Acevedo: First, they have a clear contact person they can always reach out to about the status and progress of the project. Samuel takes on this role, while I handle the actual implementation of the work with our UI/UX team.

Samuel Nau: Our clients initially come to me as the main point of contact. I get the projects started and establish the project’s conditions. When it comes to execution, Cristián takes the lead. We make sure to communicate this division of roles at the beginning of every project.

?

ARE THERE JOINT PROJECTS WITH THE COLLEAGUES FROM THE AUTOMOTIVE AND PRODUCT DESIGN (APD) DEPARTMENT?

Cristián Acevedo: Yes, of course. Nowadays, it’s increasingly important to think holistically. We combine all the expertise and skills from studiokurbos when needed. The Rumba research project is a great example.

Samuel Nau: In fact, we regularly collaborate with APD. That’s a significant benefit for our clients—they get all services from one source. This is especially true for many smaller projects as well.

Cristián Acevedo: We had a steering wheel study, a holistic project. The client had already developed the touch technology and wanted us to design the steering wheel and create an innovative interaction concept based on their technology. So, we developed the interaction concept from a user perspective, created a prototype application, the UI design, and the animations, including clickable mockups. APD designed the steering wheel, defined the materials, and provided data for building the physical prototype. In the end, everything was integrated, and we were able to create a completely new product with new experiences.

?

AND WHO KEEPS TRACK OF SUCH PROJECTS?

Samuel Nau: Julius Schlecht and I do. It depends on which department has had contact with the client or where the larger project volume lies.

?

WHERE IS UI/UX HEADED IN THE NEAR FUTURE?

Cristián Acevedo: Without a doubt, there will be more VR/AR applications on the market. That’s why we’re already working on new use cases for VR glasses and combinations with holograms.

Samuel Nau: New trends are constantly emerging in consumer electronics. These trends are now setting performance benchmarks even for industries like automotive and machinery, which typically have longer innovation cycles.
