More Perfect Union….time to turn the page

"Individuals are the sum of their unique experiences, challenges, and accomplishments. What matters is not the barriers they face, but how they choose to confront them. And their race is not to blame for everything—good or bad—that happens in their live
Justice Thomas
With let-them-eat-cake obliviousness, today, the majority pulls the ripcord and announces ‘colorblindness for all’ by legal fiat. “But deeming race irrelevant in law does not make it so in life. No one benefits from ignorance. Although formal race-linked legal barriers are gone, race still matters to the lived experiences of all Americans in innumerable ways, and today’s ruling makes things worse, not better.
Justice Jackson
Thus, we see both sides of a debate that will rage for this entire decade….who will prevail …I don’t know yet
?I’ve seen this coming for a long time as these policies impact different segments of society in a stark fundamental manner.
Yet if we examine both statements, they reveal a totally different perspective of life and humanity.
The two competing schools that are going to slog this out vigorously over the next?half dozen years
Justice Thomas represents the view of the Exceptionalists….whose Free Will, individualized self-determination believes that destiny is created through personal investment and the quality of your unique character. A much more optimistic viewpoint of humanity which is constantly evolving, inherently altruistic and desiring to learn from each other to create this More Perfect Union.
Justice Jackson represents the views of Oppressionists ….who discounts these factors of unique gifts and abilities that are individualized but believes these talents are minimalized due to the oppressive weight of a pervasive evil system of unfairness.
It makes a presumption that humanity is static as it states that Racism is Systemic and that means …generational. This pessimistic perspective presupposes no possibility of redemption but a long struggle with an evil that truly can never be overcome but must be contained by means of a compelling force…. ?a most depressing worldview that no wonder leads to all the unrequited anger these folks possess.
Rev. Dr Martin Luther King, graduate of the Boston University School of Theology was first and foremost a Biblical Resurrectionist.
Like all pastors, priests….clergy they live in hope…are the most optimistic people you will ever meet…core to their ministry is that eternal salvation was bore on the Cross in an act that produced Universal Redemption. …”through the Cross joy came into the world”
King was nonviolent because in the purity of his heart he did not believe in Retribution ..as he was vested with a Divine Essence that the long arc of history would achieve the justice that he sought.
His task was to like the Lord’s….to ?convert Hearts and Minds not through being stiffed neck and hard hearted but with soft/kind words…..high minded concepts ?as he believe in the image of the divine that dwelled in the Free Will of each individual.
His character-based perspective was Colorblind for his theology possessed a universalists perspective of the goodness that humanity possessed and the battle was not one of Black versus White but the spirit of reconciliation versus the disruption of distorted sinful corruption.
All people were very good …all they needed were the leadership that empowered systems that created such environments.
Rev. King was of the Exceptionalist School of thought….Merit was important as it is a biblical concept ..as we read in the Parable of the Good Talents
…the worker is worth his hire
…..he that sows sparingly shall reap sparingly and he that sows bountifully shall reap bountifully.
For Rev Dr. King… let’s be clear ..salvation came to those who made a personal choice of their Free Will and that depended solely on themselves and their unique relationship to the Lord. …( very Orthodox perspective)
King that comes much more from the times of Justice Thomas reflects something that I believe is specific to our generation where there were no crave-outs or hand-outs
….you did this by yourself in the context of the community(network) that you created…this perspective is as American a Horatio Alger in “pulling yourself up by your bootstraps” ?

King did not want a home team advantage as we see today with the Left having the field, the team, the ball, the coach and all that’s remains is the referee which the Left is arduously attempting to debase, change the rules (expand the court) or whine in all their entitlement as unfair as they have yet been able to subvert the only mechanism that is protecting the Rights of several hundred million other American citizens...that totally disagree with them!
King for his part only wanted a leveling of the playing field ….for him Black People were Children of God …Blessed and Highly Favored…..all they need was to remove the chains that bound them…as Maya Angelou said …”and then I rise!”
King would disagree with Jackson’s pessimism for like all pastors we only see the better angels in people and even to the individuals that hate us we demonstrate kindness as the Scripture said …its easy to love our friends but a lot more difficult to do the same to those that dislike you.
Last night I listened to Caley Crosley radio program (Boston GBH) on the way Up Country….
She extolled the rhetoric of Justice Jackson…excoriated Justice Thomas as an Uncle Tom sell-out ..then went on to assail his character.
Her harsh words, negative message, rants, threats, condescending lectures …pure hatred … that serves no one but reveals a self-centered narcissistic perspective far a field from the affirmational message of Rev King
…Caley who in her absence of scholarship ..actually quoted him incorrectly.
This is the sad propaganda that we must endure which only makes the situation worse.
Justice Thomas’s Exceptionist Opportunity is the path forward as upward social mobility comes in many unnoticeable steps that all of a sudden sparks into a leap up to the next level. ( my family has experienced this)
Class more than Race is our society’s greatest challenge.
Crosley when asked about making admissions decisions based on income…unabashedly and without hesitation said that doesn’t work as there are more poor Whites than people of Color.
In that moment all the air was let out of the balloon…for unlike King who only wanted a level playing field…. The Entitled Oppressionists want a huge home team advantage.
So while these folks talk a good game their intentions do not comport with the Constitution that finds this “More Perfect Union” in the Equality of Everyone.
It’s time to turn the page and to engage in a meaningful dialog free of all the threats, anger, lecturing but most importantly guilting as a vehicle not to achieve parity but as Crosley made it clear ….superiority. ?
Rev King was a biblicalist deeply sipped in the verses of the Scripture that formed his mindset….he believed in the Universalist Resurrection….where choices made with your Free Will were the preeminent factor in the course of your salvation.
As much as it is fashionable to criticize this notion of Colorblindness…King would side with Justice Thomas as what was going on inside the person was far far more important than anything on the outside..
Emerging Concepts are difficult to integrate but the operative spirit here is to Stop….Reflect and then Re-engage
Societies are dynamic entities of change and my predictive mind tells me that we are in the midst of a massive leap for this community whose experiential life no long reflects the Oppresionist’s view but the Exceptionists as they live their fulfilled lives
….for they are Blessed and Highly Favored in making their dreams a positive reality
Enjoy Your 4th
