More People Will be using Insulated Concrete

It was a bit slow going for me this morning due to the extra physical exertion I put myself thru this past weekend, and as always, I keep forgetting I'm not twenty-something any more. But the real reminder I have for myself, is to continue being of the mentality that every age has its beauty, which is why I'd never want to go back to being a decade or two younger.

My first appointment was meet a gentleman at a property who drove up from southern Iowa, and nearly the first thing he said, was being apologetic about taking longer to get here, and mostly because Hwy 65 South being closed due to the work they're doing on that railroad crossing, and of course his GPS didn't know that, so he had to find a way around it. Because I never use my GPS, I couldn't help sharing a little test I did with mine while driving back from Northeast Iowa several years ago. Unless that system has become more sophisticated in these times, I found that if you happen to start taking less traveled blacktops, it will continue telling you that you're going the wrong way, and won't stop until you're back on a highway. Of course knowing nearly all the blacktops in North Iowa, I prefer to take them as short-cuts when necessary.

The thrust of my mentioning my dislike for GPS systems and the like, was to merely point out how overly-dependent we've become on computers, and I think he finally “got it” when mentioning his dependence on them, now has him not really looking at any landmarks while driving, which in my book, unplugs us from our surrounding. Someone recently mentioned his inability to envision the route he'll be taking from point A to B if it has a number of stops and turns. I certainly don't consider myself a rocket scientist, but for sure I can see in my mind which streets and highways I'll be taking to arrive at a given destination. Yes, there are many ways to get from point A to B, and unfortunately most don't realize there are, and just today I took a stair-step route to get down to 19th St. SW, just so I wouldn't have to deal with all the traffic on Hwy 122 during our Noon hour. Don't you think it better to keep our brains actively working?

I happened to notice on BBC News today the Chinese government now banning children from playing video games for more than one hour a day. Can you imagine what type of underworld those kids are going to be creating when that goes into effect. We all know how addictive those games are, and you can bet they'll be finding ways to get around the ever-present surveillance systems that country has in place. It appears that government is hell-bent on turning their entire citizenry into biological robots. The next thing they'll come up with, is thought suppression which is not so very far in our future. Too scary don't you think?

Most of the rest of my day was spent chasing after a title company to get a closing scheduled for tomorrow. As much as I appreciate what they do, I very much dis-like this last hour nonsense, to where I didn't get the closing numbers for my buyer until 11:30, but then I was to have my buyer go to his bank and get a Cashier's Check delivered to their company by Noon today, which I considered very inconsiderate. I'm sure by buyer had a fleeting thought I'd forgotten to give him his instructions earlier this morning. I've long stopped chastising people for creating such hardships because I know I'd just as well save by breath to cool the soup. Oh, but the worst of it is their wanting their numbers days ahead of time. It's become regrettable when finding all the more have lost the ability to be mindful of others.

I had my final walk-thru this afternoon on my listing over in Clear Lake, which went as well as I'd expected. The buyer is exceptionally excited about getting it closed and then getting the improvements she wants to make before she moves into it. I couldn't have agreed with her more, because when people make a mad rush at getting moved in, they then have to work around boxes and furniture while painting and decorating, along with installing new floor coverings. She asked my opinion about having all the furnace ducts cleaned, and I couldn't have been more in agreement because of how much a home's ductwork can accumulate particulates, and especially if there've been cats or dogs living within. I assured her that it was all a “meant to be” situation with her being able to purchase that home considering the multiple offers we'd had on it since I listed it.

While on the phone with another buyer this morning, I assured him that he'd better get all the materials he needs more sooner than later, because the damage that's been done to homes by these two recent hurricanes, is definitely going to drive the prices up on building materials. I personally don't know how some of these people who're planning on making any large home improvements in the near future, are going to be able to forecast how much they're actually going to spend. What I've heard but not seen, are the prices of concrete staying relatively stable these recent years. It wouldn't surprise me if more people will be using insulated concrete in the construction of their new homes. I've personally seen them, and from what I saw, they looked pretty darned good.

Have any of you noticed the fewer new cars we're seeing around town? Well, from what I've gathered from several reputable sources, the used vehicle market is going gangbusters to where if you purchased a used car back before the pandemic for say $3,000, that very same car being two years older and having more miles on it, could likely fetch between $5K and $6K. Used boats, campers and pickup trucks are even worse when considering what they'd been selling for two years ago. Of course I've been noticing some pretty sad looking jalopies of late which are reminiscent of the types of vehicles we'd see being driven south of the border. Could it possibly be true the rich are getting richer and the poor even poorer? Let's hope not very everyone's sake.

Tonight's One-liner is: Somewhere in the upbringing of today's narcissists, they were shielded from the total facts regarding the purpose of our co-existence on earth.
