Our CSR team braves the elements of the Jurassic Coast for Macmillan
On Sunday 8th of September 2024, our incredible Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) team took on perhaps their most difficult task yet… Macmillan’s Mighty Hike along the Jurassic Coast.
Despite sounding like the sort of place where escaped dinosaurs might go to relax and unwind, the Jurassic Coast is actually a World Heritage site along the English Channel.?
"Cancer has touched all of us trekking in many ways with many friends and family and is now as common as 1 in 2 of us having cancer in some form."
The day starts at 5:00 (4:30 for some!), as the whole team gathered at CareCo HQ - CC77, bleary-eyed and tousle haired. An initial, unexpected delay of someone (who shall remain nameless) over-sleeping actually turned out to be a blessing in disguise as it meant we missed the footfall of 500-odd people all moving forward as one and allowed the CareCo team to kick off the challenge together.?

Despite our delayed start, many of the team powered through and even overtook some of the earlier walkers, reaching the first pit stop at around the 7-mile mark! We’re nothing, if not eager.??
"The dedication and resilience shown by our team exemplify our commitment to giving back and making a positive impact."
There, they were treated to cereal bars, fruit, nuts, and squash to refuel. You’d be surprised how much of a gap 3 miles can look - especially when you've just done more than double that! But the treacherous stretch between mile 7 and 10 wasn’t ideal for everyone. Climbing steep cliffs and trudging through the mud is sure to put a dampener on spirits, but as per usual, the CareCo team didn’t let anything get them down and carried on with steely determination and good spirits.
Everyone eventually crossed the finish line and enjoyed a well-earned lunch provided by Macmillan. It was a moment to share stories of aches, pains, and soaked and muddy feet before hopping on the bus home.?
The best part? The team raised an outstanding £7,929 and we’re not done yet!?
An amazing effort from all involved!?
