Of the 21 richest countries in the worlds, the United States is the only nation that does not mandate paid vacation. Many of us who are fortunate enough to have paid vacation either do not use it or do not fully disconnect from work.
I was one of those statistics until last week.
After 25 professional years (and 21 married years) my wife and I took the trip of a lifetime to Hawaii. Thanks to a great supportive team, I was fully disconnected from the office (after a couple transitional days).
If you have the opportunity, get over the fear, guilt, or whatever it is holding you back and make a plan.
This TED Talk is by the owner of a design studio that closes every seven years for a one year sabbatical and uses that year of experiences to boost the next seven years of creativity. This is an extreme example, but consider how you might regularly shake up your day-to-day repetition for a new perspective. Find your way to realize the benefits of time off.
Expand your comfort zone. Reset your mind and body.
Give yourself the opportunity for new experiences and have more to offer when you get back.
...and when you do go, go all-in

5 年I'm thrilled that you could finally experience a wonderful island after all these years of dreaming!? After working in this profession this long, I am fortunate for being able to exercise these practices when I go on holiday.? We all should truly "disconnect" at least once annually and give to yourself recharged energy.? 1, 2, 3... weeks a year if you can swing it.? I have long pitched that TEDTalk for the very reasons illustrated.
I am passionately dedicated to simplifying owner workflows. My goal is to help seamlessly improve data management and operational efficiencies.
5 年This is awesome!

5 年I’m so glad you got to fully unplug, this is great advice. What island did you visit?

5 年Well said, Corey. For true success, we must remember to take care of the mind, body, and soul. Vacation and truly unplugging for a while helps with all three.?
