To accelerate your job search, you need more offers (remember: 1 is more than none).

  • Compliance Interviews: Interviews given by HR (not the hiring manger), to juice the statistics they report to government about the unemployed and age 40+ candidates interviewed. Compliance interviews are given to you because of your demographics, not because a hiring manager is interested in you.
  • Comparison Interviews: In most companies hiring managers have to compare a minimum number of additional candidates to their top choices. Comparison interviews are given just to show due diligence, not because a hiring manager is interested in hiring you.
  • Backup Interviews: Backup interviews are selected by hiring managers in case their top choices all turn down the job. The way most job seekers apply for jobs makes them hope for backup interviews, hope the top candidates turn down the job, so they'll get an offer by default - You're probably doing this too. It's a long and frustrating way to find a job, because the odds are against you.
