More climate ambition than ever and green projects for a better planet

The last week has been busy for Iberdrola worldwide, with New York Climate Week taking centre stage . Iberdrola's Executive Chairman attended the global event in person , participating in the UN General Assembly’s Climate Ambition Summit. As one of the first companies ?? to lead the charge, we have followed António Guterres' call for businesses to play their part and tackle climate change.

As Ignacio Galán said, “we are proud to be among those businesses leading the way on climate action, but it is vital more companies create and submit robust transition plans. Time is already against us in the fight against the climate crisis." Following more than two decades as a pioneer of #renewable energy ??, today we remain 100% committed to building a better world for all.

Galán joined the Global Leadership Council’s Generation Unlimited , a UNICEF-supported partnership aiming to promote #training and #employment opportunities for vulnerable young people across the world ????.

?? “We are in the midst of a green revolution, which is accelerating every day. Renewable energy is good for the planet and also for employment. For vulnerable young people, getting access to those opportunities can be a challenge. The work of UNICEF and all the partners in Generation Unlimited will help to break down those barriers. It is an honour to be part of a programme that will help so many people”, Galán said at a meeting in New York on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.

???? Generation Unlimited aims to train and upskill the world’s 1.8 billion young people, connecting them to opportunities for employment, entrepreneurship and social impact. As part of the partnership, Iberdrola is supporting the1Million Opportunities (1MiO) programme in Brazil, the Upshift innovation programme in Somalia, several projects in Spain and many more across the world.

Another challenge overcome

The Iberdrola People team confronted a big challenge as they supported our colleagues in the United States ? Avangrid gave their all in the face of Hurricane Lee, which swept through the East Coast last week. ?? ? Despite difficult weather conditions, the Central Maine Power Company team worked around the clock to restore power to those affected by the storm . The images speak for themselves ??.

Renewables around the world ??: Germany

We continue to deploy renewables around the world, especially in offshore wind, where we are developing several projects simultaneously in a number of countries.

Over in Germany, the last couple of weeks saw us install monopiles for Baltic Eagle, our new windfarm in Germany. 50 wind turbines will stand on these structures in the Baltic Sea, anchoring the #offshorewind farm to the seabed. Once completed, Baltic Eagle will produce 100% clean energy for as many as 475,000 families ??.

Last but not least, we could not leave you without photos of our impressive ambassador and 10-time world kitesurfing champion, Gisela Pulido, at one of our UK offshore windfarms.

East Anglia ONE witnessed the first time that a sportswoman has ever sailed next to an offshore windfarm. A windy day moved its turbines and Gisela as she glided over the water.
