No More "Bah Humbugs" For Your Business - Here's Your Spring Maintenance Checklist

Spring is here and that means the sun is shining, the weather’s getting warmer, but it’s also a time for unwanted traffic to start creeping into your space. It’s important to do what you can to keep your business pest free. ?

With the transition from cold temperatures to warmer weather, birds, bugs, rodents, and insects are looking for places to move in and build nests.?Door openings, gaps and cracks provide an appealing means of entry into your building. There are several solutions you can use that help block out unwelcome visitors, while keeping customers and employees comfortable and happy.

If birds get in your building, they may cause several health and environmental issues that can become very serious. ?They can also cause damage to your building, machinery or ventilation systems that can add up and cost you a lot of money in repairs. ?Bird barriers are a great solution.?They’re made of heavy-duty mesh, they fill openings, and prevent outdoor traffic from entering.?They also allow superior airflow and ventilation into your space. ??

And with warmer weather arriving, everyone loves the feel of a good Spring breeze.?Bug Screens are the perfect solution for keeping out unwanted pests, while still enjoying the nice weather. ?They’re lightweight and extremely durable and designed to be easily moved in and out of openings, increasing your energy savings and creating a more comfortable work environment. Bug screens require little to no maintenance so you can spend your spare time at the pool or catching up on your golf game.?

Another alternative to keep pests out, but also good for the work environment, is strip doors or curtains.?They’re made of durable PVC material that can create separation and defend against unfavorable conditions.?They help keep out weather, noise, dust, fumes, and unwanted traffic.??They also save on heating and cooling costs by helping to regulate temperatures to keep the warm or air-conditioned air in. ??

Air curtains are another option used to provide that first line of defense to keep pests out.??Open doors where trash is being disposed, deliveries being made, or food being processed can cause odors, and attract those unwanted pests.??Air curtains deliver a concentrated flow of air that deter flying insects from entering an opening.?They’re also energy efficient by helping to maintain temperatures inside the building by keeping warm, humid air out and cool air in, which means more money in your pockets.??

Industrial settings, which can be hot and humid, are a perfect place for that insect family to thrive.?Electronic bug zappers, which have UV lights can attract flying insects, such as flies or mosquitos, and wipe them out.??And for restaurant or retail settings, there’s nothing worse than bugs or insects spoiling that romantic dinner or shopping trip with friends.?Glue traps quietly attract insects with high-intensity UV light.?And don’t worry about them being unsightly, some are designed to look like wall sconces that blend in as part of the overall room decor.

Now that you’ve taken care of your unwanted traffic, take the next step and continue your Spring cleaning with these preventative maintenance tasks.

At the change of seasons, you should inspect your doors for potential air loss.?Winter weather can wear down the outside of a building along with the door openings.??Be sure to replace your weather stripping around the perimeter of your doors and check the bulb seals and gaskets to avoid issues with corrosion and weathering.?Don’t skip this step to ensure your doors are providing the most efficient solutions for your location.??This will keep hot and cold air where you want it and save you money in the long run.??

Windows are another point of access for unwanted traffic.??Make sure your window’s seals are in good condition.??The materials can break down over time and can cause air leaks and gaps small enough for those pesky insects to sneak in.???

Once you’ve done your Spring maintenance and cleared your area of those annoying pests, you can enjoy the season and all it has to offer!
