Moorpark College Alumnus Mike Madrid Named 2024 Distinguished Alumni Award Honoree

Mike Madrid is a nationally recognized expert on Latino voting trends whose work over the last two decades has affected the outcomes of elections and political campaigns across the U.S. His involvement in local, state and federal races has helped him to develop a mastery of the successful characteristics of winning campaigns and has made him an asset to those he supports. A pioneer in Latino communications and outreach strategies in state, local, and national political campaigns, Madrid is one of the few consultants in the country who has transcended party lines working for major campaigns on both sides of the aisle.

Madrid served as Moorpark College Associated Student Body president and was appointed by California Gov. Pete Wilson as a student representative on the California Community College Board of Governors during the early 1990s. Madrid later transferred to and graduated from Georgetown University, where he wrote a senior thesis centered on Latino voters and Latino politics—research that was foundational in his career in strategic Latino communications and outreach in California, Texas, Florida and nationwide.

In 2020, Madrid co-founded the Lincoln Project, a Republican anti-Trump organization. He was an adjunct lecturer on Race, Class, and Partisanship at the University of Southern California in Spring 2021 and is currently a Senior Fellow at UC Irvine School of Social Ecology.

With over three decades of experience, Mike Madrid has worked with the California Republican Party and the League of California Cities. He has appeared as a commentator on MSNBC, CNN, and SCRIPPS TV. ?He recently published his book, “The Latino Century,” releasedon June 18, 2024
