Moonlighting – The Moon ultimately derives its light from the Sun
The Post COVID world has witnessed changing work dynamics and newer work models are evolving. The gig economy evolved, then there was the ‘Great Resignation’ and now the recent trend is about ‘Moonlighting.?
There is a lot of external chatter on the concept of 'Moonlighting'. To make it simple,?moonlighting?is a situation where an employee takes other work opportunities (mostly involving financial gain) while being in an employment contract/agreement with an employer.?

It is however important to note that the moon derives its light from the sun which means the principal employer. Utilizing the resources of the employer and being in a conflicting position including but not limited to working for competition, peers or companies where the principal employer has hired for skills is a ‘No-No’ and as a company, we have taken a clear stand while also explaining this to our employees. There cannot be a situation of dual employment. The individuals are encouraged to move to a contractual or a freelancer role while imparting services/skills to multiple companies. Employees taking external paid activities have been educated to approach HR and seek clearance. This brings is transparency, and builds trust and good faith.?
?Employees are also encouraged to pursue hobbies/interests outside of office hours be it music, photography, teaching assignments, coaching, painting, social media content creation, being an influencer, etc. while remaining true to the outcomes to be delivered.?
Communication, transparency and values are key to handling this new bird – May the light be of the shine of character and make self, family and the organization proud during the time spent – Moon or no Moon.?
