DIRECTOR / VICE PRESIDENT , HAPPY LEARNING CENTER Relations

 Title: Vice President, Center Relations

Supervisor: President and CEO

Position Summary:

The Vice President, Center Relations, oversees the organization’s relationships with HAPPY Learning Centers. S/he manages a team in the development and execution of initiatives that provide operational and strategic support to the Centers. S/he builds and continues to grow critical relationships with leaders at each HAPPY Learning Center to ensure understanding of the Center’s status and current and future goals. The Vice President, Center Relations collaborates with all other teams within the organization to ensure effective coordination of information from all stakeholders regarding Center initiatives. Collaboration is critical between the Vice President, Center Relations and the Vice President, Education related to the regular rollout and support of new programs and products. The Vice President, Center Relations is a member of the Senior Leadership team, reporting to the President and CEO, working to ensure the vision is at the forefront of all programs, and the organization stays on path to meet strategic goals.

Description of Duties: 

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

Center Engagement

  • Oversee the development and execution of operational strategies and initiatives that support the current HAPPY Learning Center network.
  • Develop and execute a strategy to maintain successful relationships with all Centers, especially with essential leadership, including host institutions and board members, and Center Directors.
  • Fully understand and continually assess the financial, operational, and programmatic status of each Challenger Learning Centers. Anticipate risks and issues to provide guidance and support to resolve problems proactively.
  • Understand and ensure adherence to contractual relationships with HAPPY Learning Centers, including oversight of the Standards of Excellence program. Ensure completion of regular self-assessment and development of corrective action plans, milestones, and timetables when appropriate.
  • Work across teams to prepare all contracts and agreements, including scopes of work, budgets, and timelines, for consulting (professional, technical) services at HAPPY Learning Centers.
  • Support the maintenance and negotiation of HAPPY Learning Center licensing agreements.
  • Ensure an open line of regular, effective communications exists between HAPPY Center and HAPPY Learning Centers (network-wide and targeted emails, conference calls, 1:1 phone calls, meetings, and site visits).
  • Work in collaboration with the Education team to ensure the successful rollout of new products and programs at HAPPY Learning Centers.
  • Oversee and continually evolve professional development and shared learning strategies and resources to help support Centers in daily operations and program delivery.
  • In partnership with the Senior Leadership Team, transition new communities from the phase of planning and building into a member of the HAPPY Learning Center network.
  • Manage the Center Relations team and continually analyze team responsibilities to ensure resources are available to meet those needs.

Program Management

  • Oversee all department projects ensuring deliverables are completed on time. Identify roadblocks, provide solutions, and adjust plans as needed. Ensure all stakeholders are made aware of progress, expectations, and changes.
  • Oversee the creation of annual department plans, overseeing all aspects of execution. Ensure progress toward achieving the organization’s strategic goals.
  • Oversee program/project budgets and timelines. Oversee the development of annual department budget(s) and timelines.
  • Oversee all reporting functions, ensuring reports are completed accurately and on time.

Senior Leadership Team

  • Serve as a member of the Senior Leadership team to help ensure the vision is at the forefront of all programs and organization stays on path to meet goals.
  • Work as a cohesive team member with the President and CEO and the other Senior Leaders to annually develop Challenger Center plans to meet our strategic mission and vision.
  • Proactively identify and pursue opportunities to represent Challenger Center at conferences, meetings, and special events as appropriate and requested (participant/attendee, speaker/panelist, host).
  • Support the Board of Directors by providing regular updates on HAPPY LEARNING Center and provide staff leadership for HAPPY LEARNING Center Board of Directors, as needed.

 Administration

  • Oversee management of outside contractors/vendor relationships, including the development of scope of work, budgets, timelines, and contracts.
  • Keep abreast of relevant industry trends and best practices in STEM education, education technology, nonprofit, etc. and share knowledge with others.
  • Attend staff meetings, assist with office support, participate in professional networking, and team-building activities. Support other administrative duties as needed. Submit accounting and original receipts to the Accounting Department each month on or before the due date
  • Accurately report time spent on projects, PTO, sick, etc. on time.

 Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • 15+ years of nonprofit management experience.
  • Extensive experience in overseeing and managing contracts and agreements.
  • Extensive experience in program management.
  • Proven track record of successfully working across multiple teams.
  • Adept at ensuring the flow of information within the organization and to external stakeholders.
  • Experience with strategic planning, strategy design, and metrics development.
  • Excellent relationship management skills.
  • Experience in developing and managing complex budgets and financial reports.
  • Extensive knowledge of professional and leadership development best practices.
  • Experience supervising staff and leading successful teams.
  • Strong customer service experience with an emphasis on customer relationship management.
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate, negotiate, and oversee work with external vendors and partners.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively represent and speak on behalf of HAPPY Center
  • Ability to lead meetings and presentations.
  • Strong Organizational skills with great attention to detail.
  • Flexible and prepared for challenges of supporting a small office.
  • Creative thinking with a positive, can-do attitude under pressure.
