Montreal leads the charge on global and local for climate

Maybe its a lingering from EXPO67, maybe its the fact that the city of Montreal is home to the leading UN organisations on sustainability , the Montreal SF6 Protocol on Ozone , COP15 and that most recently the IFRS Foundation launched Montreal as the centre of ISSB, to establish the global international sustainability standards for climate but our city has people who care and understand as experts the dynamics of "global and local " especially on international policy. I had the privilege of representing our CEO Heather Chalmers at an event hosted by the Montreal Council of Foreign Relations aka CORIM hosted Minister Steven Guilbeault, one of our own longtime environmental leaders of Quebec and responsible for the federal ministry of environment, climate change for Canada was hosted to speak about the expansion of environmental diplomacy in 2023. Energy security has become national security since the Russian invasion of Ukraine which saw the impact of certain European countries decisions with respect to their energy transition bite when their supply chain decisions on nuclear retirements or exclusive gas supply agreements turned against them.

Quebec is blessed. We are the green clean battery of the North with our mighty hydroelectric capacity in our province and an enviable asset class for energy production. As a manufacturer and energy equipment supplier, GE is proudly based in Quebec across Gaspe, Brossard, La Praire, Bromont , Ste Eustache to name a few places. Our citizens have come to rely upon our accessible and clean power for homes and economy for decades. The Minister spoke about the critical work being effected by Canada as well as Quebec with respect to NETZERO for 2050. Canada has among the most progressive suite of climate policies in the G7, from our Carbon Price to the Pan Canadian Framework for Climate ...Another of Quebec's experts Philip Dunsky was appointed chair of the national Electric Advisory Council to advise about what Minister Guilbeault described as the objective of our Net Zero Grid by 2035 across Canada. The convergence of climate, environment and global health concerns speaks to the vital and urgent action that we all have to address in a collaborative and constructive manner to solve the climate challenge as well as leave a sustainable future for our youth.
