1. China Performs 5G Remote Micron Eye Surgery from 600 Kilometers Away

China successfully carried out a 5G remote micron eye surgery using a surgical robot in Hainan Province. The chief surgeon operated the robotic arm in Haikou City and performed subretinal therapy for an experimental animal located 600 kilometers away in South China's Guangdong Province.

The surgery, conducted on June 23, was confirmed as safe and stable after a month of postoperative observation, as stated by Professor Lin Haotian from the Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center of 中山大学 .

2. FDA Approves Iveric Bio’s Izervay for Geographic Atrophy

Iveric Bio, An Astellas Company has received FDA approval for Izervay (avacincaptad pegol intravitreal solution) to treat?geographic atrophy (GA) secondary to age-related macular degeneration (AMD).

As a new complement C5 inhibitor, Izervay stands out as the sole approved GA treatment, showing a statistically significant reduction (P<0.01) in the rate of GA progression at the 12-month primary endpoint throughout two phase 3 clinical trials.

5. Contact Lens Brands with Forever Chemicals Revealed: Alcon, Acuvue, Coopervision

A recent report from Mamavation has revealed that eighteen different types of soft contact lenses, including three major brands—Alcon, Acuvue, and Coopervision—contain detectable levels of organic fluorine, indicating the presence of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), commonly referred to as "forever chemicals."

The reported range of organic fluorine levels in these lenses varied significantly, ranging from 105 to 20,700 parts per million (ppm). Notably, the popular brands Acuvue, Alcon, and Coopervision all exhibited indications of PFAS "forever chemicals," albeit at different levels.
