Monthly Newsletter - July 2024

Monthly Newsletter - July 2024

Dear Subscriber,

We hope this edition of the newsletter finds you well.?

This last month has seen the global release of our new learning course and the first course of its kind specifically for parent-coaches. It is a unique role yet we have so many volunteer parent-coaches across sports all over the world who we need to support to help them do the best job they possibly can for themselves, their own family and the other children they coach.

On the same topic demand has been high for our ‘Parent-Coach’ package which includes a webinar for all parent coaches within a sporting organisation along with 10 copies of the best-selling book ‘Two Hats.’?

Our partnership with Spond continues to flourish and as our primary partner here at WWPIS we cannot speak more highly of an organisation that aligns so perfectly with our own mission and values. Almost 3 million people including coaches, club admins, members, and parents across thousands of clubs, are actively using Spond every month.

We ran a number of live and virtual sessions across a range of sports including another visit to Leinster Rugby to work with the U18 Performance Pathway parents. It is such a privilege working with such iconic sporting institutions, something we never take for granted.

As the WWPIS brand continues to grow, live and virtual session slots are being heavily booked months in advance.? With annual memberships guaranteeing a? live or virtual slot, this option is proving very popular with organisations allowing them to build a consistent and sustainable programme with us.

The Parents in Sport podcast this month saw us joined by Dr Alison Maitland and Jenna Ashford to discuss their book ‘Drop the Struggle.’?

You can find out more about some of these items in this month’s newsletter.

NEW LEARNING COURSE

In partnership with etrainu we are delighted to announce the release of a new course to support ‘Parent-Coaches.’

The ‘Two Hats’ learning course has been designed to support parents coaching or transitioning into coaching their own children and emphasises the importance of maintaining a balance between coaching duties and family life.

Courses are available for both individual purchase and group purchase for sporting organisations.

Customised options are also available along with access to SCORM files which will allow sports to embed the course in their own LMS systems.

To purchase a group subscription or to discuss options for your organisation click here.

To buy an individual course click here.

If you would like to discuss other options or you have any further questions, please email [email protected] and we will get back to you as soon as we can.

LEINSTER RUGBY VISIT

Over the last couple of months we have visited Leinster Rugby to spend time with both the U18 boys and girls parents of players involved in their performance pathway.

For this month’s workshop we visited Energiya park for the first time, greeted by glorious weather and spent some quality time with both staff and parents.

This is our first season of working with the pathway programmes in Leinster and we are excited by the positive response from parents and the future plans to maximise our impact on the programme.?

It was also a great honour to appear in the ‘Leinster v Ulster’ matchday programme with a piece about WWPIS and our work in the province which was put together brilliantly by journalist Des Berry.

Almost 3 million people including coaches, club admins, members, and parents across thousands of clubs, are actively using Spond every month. The app fully supports the management of all sports and activities, offering events, communications, payments, fundraising and other features.

Our collaboration with them extends this commitment, helping us to support a lot of the NGBs, clubs, coaches and parents that we work with not just with administration, but also in safeguarding, communication, and compliance.”

As a valued member of the WWPIS community, if you would like to have a personal meeting with Spond to discuss both the app and club management system then email us at [email protected] and we will help facilitate this for you.

ANNUAL MEMBERSHIPS

It is great to have onboard a large number of annual members here at WWPIS and we have been tasked with creating badges for organisations to put on their own websites/platforms to show our working partnership together.

This model has proved hugely successful across the world in 2023 for National Governing Bodies, Sporting Organisations, Clubs and Schools.

The benefits of an Annual Membership include ongoing consultancy and an opportunity to really embed continued support within existing programmes as opposed to one hit wonders which we know don't always have the greatest impact.

Annual Membership also includes discounted rates for access to the WWPIS platform and all of our resources which can also act as a revenue stream for organisations.

The most important benefit of an Annual Membership is that it will give you priority on securing dates for live workshops and webinars. WWPIS has become a world leading brand in this space and securing dates and times to suit is becoming more of a challenge and we never want to let people down.

If you would like to discuss options that may be available to you or would like to set up an annual membership then please email me personally at [email protected] .

PARENTS IN SPORT PODCAST - DR ALISON MAITLAND & JENNA ASHFORD

In this episode Dr Alison Maitland and Jenna Ashford join Gordon MacLelland to discuss their book 'Drop the Struggle' and how understanding their approach of using 'Acceptance and Commitment Therapy' may help us as sporting parents to help support our young people to fulfil their potential both in and out of their sport.

During the conversation they discuss amongst other things:

  • The writing of 'Drop the Struggle' and the motivations behind writing the book
  • Not falling into the trap of a one size fits all approach for every child
  • Helping our children understand that we cannot control our thoughts and feelings but we can control how we act and respond
  • The danger of using phrases such as 'Don't cry, Don't be nervous'
  • Using open questions and co-collaborating with our children around our role in supporting them
  • Encouraging our children to share what they are thinking and feeling
  • The importance of parental role modelling in sharing our own thoughts and feelings
  • Being conscious of not labelling our children
  • Creating our own narratives of success, failure and disappointment
  • The power of being able to listen
  • Helping our children acknowledge their emotion but then focus on the actions that follow

WORKSHOP AND WEBINAR MENU

These sessions can be for management, performance staff, coaches, parents, parent-coaches and young athletes depending on individual needs and requirements.
