Monthly Musing: Quick Decisions or Snap Judgements?

Each month, I plan to share a thought on "how" we go about our day jobs. Sometimes we get so caught up in the day-to-day that we forget to take a step back and consider a different "how". This month, I am following on from the theme of RFPs and making decisions.

We are all being asked to do more faster. Some people prefer to analyse and think through multiple scenarios, while others prefer gut instinct and learning from the outcome. Either path, it is likely that you have taken many data points from your experience to help you come to your outcome. But with experience, there are usually also assumptions. These assumptions can narrow your thinking without you even realising.

There is, of course, no right or wrong way to make decisions, but the below article provides a useful perspective to identify how you can challenge yourself on the basis of your decisions:

So how could you do this in practice? I would not suggest exercising this process on every decision, but every now and then you may surprise yourself on the assumptions you have made and maybe learn from a mistake that didn't actually happen!
