The Monthly Messenger | June 2024

We’ve got global communications’ number — so we’re sharing important updates and discussions with you, plus some insights into what the netnumber team has going on.?

In June, schools are letting out for summer, the weather is continuing to warm up, and most of us just want to find the nearest beach. Still, change and innovation march on in the world of mobile communications — and there’s a lot to say about everything that’s happened this month across the industry. So, let’s hop into this month’s most sizzling news, resources and more.?

~ Cheers from the netnumber team.

Innovative, Interesting or Irrelevant?

Let’s talk about the big-ticket items and up-and-coming topics in the world of global communications. Think of this like a ‘hot or not’ for the telecommunications fanatics out there.?

Feel free to use the comments to weigh in and share your thoughts on these trends and their impacts:

Is the Apple RCS story still news?: Not too long ago, Apple revealed that it was finally joining the ranks of those offering Rich Communications Services (RCS) to users. This raised eyebrows since the company is very late to the party. Nevertheless, RCS capabilities are now available, leading to articles like this one from WIRED about its benefits, how it can be used and more. So, now that the planned rollout has become a reality, how are we feeling? What does this say about the growing role of RCS in global communications, and how has the mobile landscape changed as a result — if at all??

Is AI brand spoofing our newest and most insidious enemy?: Spoofing is far from a new topic in the mobile ecosystem — but as AI continues making mind-boggling leaps and bounds, the nature of this fraud is changing. Yes, now fraudsters can mimic voices and even visuals to trick victims and cause catastrophic damage to brands. However, AI is playing both sides of the fence. In this article, we can see how AI is both helping and hurting — but where does this fight leave brands and businesses? How is AI-backed spoofing changing security protocols, how can we protect the mobile landscape against it, and how can we use fraudsters’ own tools against them?

Feel free to offer your opinion about these questions in the comments — or let us know what other discussions you’ve seen happening that are worth diving into.

A Word on Webinars

This month, we want to shine a light on a webinar our team recently did alongside MEF.?

Our VP of Product Management, Catalin Badea, and Bradley Greer, our VP of Data Solutions & Product Marketing, recently sat down to discuss how the staggering growth of fraud is demanding new and innovative preventative measures.?

What measures are needed, and where can organizations get them quickly and conveniently? How can organizations cover all their bases with minimal business disruption and strain on personnel and resources? These are the kinds of questions this webinar answers.?

We strongly urge you to give this session a listen. Find the video recording here in its entirety:?

NIaaS holds the global, data-based secrets to unlocking industry-leading fraud protection strategies, creating reliable and efficient routing (regardless of how complexity grows) and a lot more.?

Also, our own Bradley Greer recently returned from the event circuit — and he came back with lots to share about the discussions he had and the lessons he learned about security, identity and communications at scale.?

Out and About

Last month finished strong with Identiverse, Communications Fraud Control Association (CFCA) events, CommunicAsia, and even Rocco Genesis, which took our team all the way from Las Vegas to Seville, Singapore and beyond.?

In June, we started with a bang by attending the M3AAWG 61st General Meeting in Vienna, Austria, Capacity Media - a techoraco brand 's Messaging & SMS World in London (and CFCA Summer Educational, also in London, where netnumber was also on-site — and did we mention Brad Greer presented on spoofing?).?

Included in our event roster for July is:

  • Capacity Eurasia: 7/2 - 7/3
  • MEF Meetup & Leadership Forum Canada: 7/16 - 7/17
  • MEF CONNECTS & Meetup - Asia/Jakarta: 7/23 - 7/24

A Monthly Meet-the-Product

In our last monthly newsletter, we were proud to present Number Lock, a key tool in the fight against text messaging and brand impersonation fraud. Now, we’re just as proud to help you get to know its sister service Number Watch.?

In the pursuit of fraud mitigation, we know that one of the most difficult barriers to reducing instances of fraud lies in the complex nature of phone number activity. Phone numbers change constantly as they are used for day-to-day communication, adjusting in carrier or in number type between fixed line and mobile. This can affect the integrity of databases and other tools in the global mobile landscape’s arsenal.?

With the help of Number Watch, the dynamic nature of numbers doesn’t have to be an issue for fraud prevention.?

Serving as a comprehensive phone number monitoring solution that safeguards customers through real-time alerts, Number Watch enables netnumber customers to store phone numbers on a watchlist to be continually monitored for a wide range of industry events and activities. If any of the monitored events are observed on the watchlist numbers, the customer is informed immediately. This takes the guessing out of the phone number and fraud prevention game.?

In a complex and changing world, certainty is a big deal — so don’t miss our product sheet on Number Watch to see how it can change your ecosystem.

Your Final Food for Thought

The thought of summer vacations and travel has us thinking: We want to know what your?

favorite industry events are. Whether it’s because of the destination, the conversations or the themes covered, we’re asking you to share with us what you think the most valuable forums are for the creation of the mobile future. We certainly have our highlights — but we want to know what industry events you or your team always look forward to. Share in the comments, and let’s plan to create some memories.?
