The Monthly Messenger: June 2023

We’ve got global communications’ number — so we’re sharing important updates and discussions with you, plus some insights into what the netnumber Global Data Services team has going on.?

Author and photographer Edwin Way Teale once said that all things seem possible in May — and who are we to disagree? May proved to be another month full of excitement and innovation here at netnumber GDS (and across the rest of the mobile ecosystem as well), and June has already started off strong. So, what’s new in the world of mobile communications? Let’s chat about that.?

Innovative, Interesting or Irrelevant?

Let’s talk about the big-ticket items and up-and-coming topics in the world of global communications. Think of this like a ‘hot or not’ for the telecommunications fanatics out there.?

Feel free to use the comments to weigh in and share your thoughts on these trends and their impacts:

In with the EoT?: We’ve all heard the term ‘IoT’ by now — but have you heard of #EoT? This is a whole lot bigger than a single-letter change. In fact, it’s expanding and reshaping the mobile landscape as we speak. This Economy of Things (hence the acronym) is bringing a new era of trading right to the smartphone, and sources are saying that upwards of three billion devices could be engaged in this digital marketplace by 2030. That’s a big development — but (as most things do these days) it brings to mind all the standard questions around security, fraud, digital identity and keeping personal information, well, personal. So, do we think the ecosystem is ready for this kind of challenge? What solutions will be key to keeping this EoT safe??

Dumb phones: Unexpected underdog, or a natural response to rapid digitalization?: They say that nowadays, nobody can live without their #smartphone. It’s true that our devices, equipped with a seemingly infinite number of capabilities — from simple calculators to complex interconnected apps — are our most handy, multi-faceted Swiss army knife. It’s no surprise that we all ended up with one in our pockets. However, rising screen time over the years has led to a surprising trend: A return to ‘dumb’ phones. Articles like this one from CNBC are commenting on this interesting phenomenon — so, what do you think? Are we looking at a return to simplicity, or is this a blip on telecom’s ever-changing, fast-moving radar of trends??

Let us know what you think about these questions in the comments — or let us know what other discussions you’ve seen happening that are worth diving into.

This Month’s Biggest News

We’d be remiss if we didn’t give a shoutout to last month’s top netnumber news: The importance of anti-fraud solutions and the role of our NumeriCheck solution. If you haven’t missed the details on that, don’t forget to check out our kit.?

Of course, we were also thrilled to share some big news recently that continues our mission of delivering the best of innovation and mobile empowerment to the entire ecosystem: We just welcomed a new VP of Strategy.?

Good Reads

When we talk about non-negotiables in mobile messaging and communications, it’s clear that speed, scalability, redundancy and flexibility are among the top requirements. These assets build the backbone of today’s global fabric, and without them, the powerful framework we’ve built (and the business and personal use cases it supports) would crumble.?

So, where does netnumber GDS fit into that? Good question. We’re always happy to explain and shed some light on how our industry-leading options offer the best of all these non-negotiables. So, if you’re looking to give your ecosystem a boost, don’t miss our latest blog: Top 3 Reasons Why Best-in-Class Global Infrastructure is Non-Negotiable.?

Speaking of must-haves, another highlight of the last month was when our own Bradley Greer, Senior Director of Data Solutions & Partnerships, sat down with MEF and Sekura Mobile to talk about protecting digital identities and averting fraud. This webinar was chock-full of not-to-miss insights, so give the recap blog a read — or watch the discussion in its entirety — here.?

Out and About

If you know us, you know that we’re always on the go. In May (and early June), we were grateful to be a part of (and speak at) International Telecoms Week - ITW | a techoraco brand , the Mobile Ecosystem Forum Leadership Forum + Meet-Up Stockholm, and CFCA’s 2023 Summer Educational Event in Seattle.

Next up in our never-ending list of event attendances (just to be clear, we wouldn’t have it any other way) is Capacity Media - a techoraco brand ’s Messaging & SMS World event in London and MEF Toronto on July 18 (among others). Headed to either of those? Give us a shout.?

Also, don’t miss our webinar on June 22 with MEF if you’re interested in hearing more about number verification. (Trust us, you’ll want to know everything this discussion has to offer.)

A Monthly Meet-the-Team

As our newest member of the team, we couldn’t be more excited to offer Tina M. Donaldson not one but two coveted spots in our monthly newsletter. So, we’ll start you off in the process of getting to know our new VP of Strategy:

Tina has been a vital team member at communications leaders and hyperscalers like 谷歌 , Twilio and Android Enterprise, and her technology and device prowess reflects that strong history in this industry. She currently resides in California, which means she has a sunny disposition (all Californians do…right?) — so don’t be afraid to say hi.?

Your Final Food for Thought

June always heralds the start of summer. It also gives us the longest day of the year. So, a new season to work with — and more time than ever to get the gears turning. Of course, we’d never dream of pulling anyone away from their summer beach days or family vacations, but as we enter this new phase, it makes us wonder what else is coming down the pipeline.?

So, what do you think will be next for the global mobile ecosystem? How can we prepare for it??

We know, it’s a question for the ages.?

Until next time,?
