The Monthly Messenger | January Edition
We’ve got global communications’ number — so we’re sharing important updates and discussions with you, plus some insights into what the netnumber team has going on.
So, fun fact. The month of January is named after the Roman god, Janus. He’s depicted as having two faces, one that looks forward to the year to come and one that looks back at the year that was. It’s a nice thought, but no thanks. At netnumber, the book on 2024 is closed, and we’re 100% focused on 2025. That means getting back out on the event circuit to champion the value of number intelligence (check out where we’ll be in February, and let’s connect) and keeping our finger on the pulse of the industry to help you respond more effectively. We’ve also got several innovative services on the drawing board, giving you more ways to monetize the industry’s most accurate and updated phone number data. Let’s face it: when it comes down to improving how you prevent fraud, route traffic, deliver A2P messaging campaigns and more, it’s all about the data. And nobody does data like netnumber.
Welcome to the first Monthly Messenger of 2025. Let’s get this party started!
NEWS: netnumber’s Fraud Prevention Registry is up for a MEFFYS award in the anti-fraud category, and we’d love your vote.?
Despite continuous industry efforts, fraud continues to be a major issue in telecom. Industry players have long recognized the importance of sharing fraud data, but they didn’t have a safe, reliable mechanism to do it. netnumber is partnering with WMC Global, experts in fraud prevention, to address this critical gap in the industry. Together, we have developed the Fraud Prevention Registry, a first-of-its-kind industry tool, The FPR is a global consortium-based phone registry for identifying and reporting communications fraud.
netnumber will officially roll out the Fraud Prevention Registry beginning mid-February, but you can get a sneak peek by going to the?MEFFYS 2025 Anti-Fraud Awards Shortlist. Please remember to vote!?
Winners will be announced in Barcelona on March 3rd! Vote for netnumber today!
Innovative, Interesting or Irrelevant?
Let’s talk about the big-ticket items and up-and-coming topics in the world of global communications. Think of this like a ‘hot or not’ for the telecommunications fanatics out there.
Feel free to use the comments to weigh in and share your thoughts on these trends and their impacts:
Protecting MSPs From Helpdesk?Phishing: Helpdesk impersonation is in the news as an increasing number of mobile service providers are having to fend off fraud from attackers pretending to be clients. That’s not all; attackers are double-dipping and also targeting MSP employees by pretending to be part of the IT team. While those in the industry will typically recognize warning signs, the attacks are becoming more sophisticated.
Google Messages dual SIM RCS support finally gets a widespread rollout: Finally, some good news regarding RCS. After almost a year of testing and a couple of false starts, it seems Google is finally widely rolling out dual SIM RCS support in its messaging app. The new capability enables users to send and receive RCS messaging on two numbers linked to their phone.? Previously, only one number per user could be registered for RCS, and the other would be relegated to SMS texting.

A Monthly Meet-the-Product
Last month, we introduced you to three new digital identity and security services: Know Your Customer Matching, SIM Swap Detection and Number Verification. Together, they form the foundation for a proactive and reliable digital identity strategy. This month, we’re shining the spotlight on the netnumber Services Registry? (nnSR?).
The nnSR? plays a central role in successful A2P message campaigns, providing the routing information required to terminate SMS/MMS messages to text-enabled landline numbers, OTT services and MVNOs. With the ability to asynchronously migrate voice and messaging services between networks, the nnSR? has applications beyond A2P campaigns. These include network mergers and migrations, MVNO networks, SMS/MMS enablement and more. To learn more, visit our? nnSR? resource page.
