The Monthly Messenger: February 2024
We’ve got global communications’ number — so we’re sharing important updates and discussions with you, plus some insights into what the netnumber team has going on.
Officially, two months into the new year, and what do we have to show for it? Well, a lot, actually! A whirlwind January has been followed by a jam-packed February — and we want to share it all with you. Without further ado, let’s dive in!
~ Cheers from the netnumber team.
Let’s talk about the big-ticket items and up-and-coming topics in the world of global communications. Think of this like a ‘hot or not’ for the telecommunications fanatics out there.?
Feel free to use the comments to weigh in and share your thoughts on these trends and their impacts:
Is the value of A2P actually our weak link? A2P messaging capabilities have opened up a world of new value for businesses across the globe, delivering richer, more personalized and convenient lanes of communication for closer customer connections. So…has this value been turned against us? New reports say it’s very possible. In fact, these reports claim that 20 billion fraudulent messages were sent in 2023, and the financial toll on brands from this artificially inflated traffic is staggering, incurring over a billion dollars lost to fraud. We have a few ideas (and a few solutions) to help stem the flow of fraud, but we want to hear from you: How do we re-flip the script to protect A2P again?
Another big step in regulation against #AI — will it work for robocalling?: In February, the FCC took a big step forward in protecting the mobile ecosystem against the increasing threat of sophisticated AI fraud, making the use of AI-generated robocalls illegal. Now, the world has the authority to prosecute offenders…but in terms of actually eliminating the threat at the source entirely, there’s still lots of work to be done. However, when we consider policy, legislation and regulatory bodies, what do we still want to see? What other steps need to be taken, and how can we facilitate them with collaboration??
Feel free to offer your opinion about these questions in the comments — or let us know what other discussions you’ve seen happening that are worth diving into.
This Month’s Biggest News
???This month’s big news? Our team is taking the stage in Barcelona at the Mobile Ecosystem Forum MEF Global Forum for multiple talks and panels — so if you’ll be there, don’t miss us.?
??As the cherry on top, we’re also sponsoring the MEF Lounge event, so don’t forget to register!?
We hope to see you there.?
As leaders in the mobile communications space, it goes without saying that we’re all about starting and supporting conversations — but when it comes to industry innovation and development, we strongly believe that having the right conversations is key. So, we put together this handy guide for what we think are the top conversations we all should be having (not only at events like Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, but all the time).

Also, in case you missed our recent feature in The Fast Mode’s Trends and Outlook series, here’s your chance to give these insights from Bradley Greer, our VP of Data Solutions & Product Marketing, a look. Check this out to learn why the power of trust should never be underestimated as a business asset and how to get the right intelligent data to power next-gen routing, provisioning and beyond.
Not to mention, you can also hear from Greer in this webinar with MEF regarding new, innovative ways to fight brand impersonation in the U.S. messaging ecosystem. Trust us when we say this is one of the most important topics to be unpacking today — you won’t want to miss this conversation:
??Last month was dominated by #PTC — this month, the event on everyone’s mind is Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. Our team will be there (of course), and we’d love to chat with you if you’re on site too:
Want to stay on top of our itinerary and catch us at a spot near you? Keep an eye on our event attendance here. We hope to see you soon!
Last month, we were proud to help our newsletter readers meet our Portfolio. A three-pillar array of solutions that supports all the best of routing, provisioning and trust is something we’ve spent decades building and perfecting — and it’s always growing (shoutout to our latest solutions Number Lock and Number Watch).?
So, let’s continue our product tour by kicking off the individual spotlights with the netnumber Services Registry (nnSR)?. This ultra-powerful tool is widely depended upon to identify if a messaging service has been assigned to a number so that #SMS and MMS messages can be routed effectively. It’s a key enabler of toll-free texting and 10DLC/A2P messaging — and it’s grown to become one of the world’s largest telecom registries in existence.???
Yes, that’s hundreds of millions of telephone numbers and dozens of millions of updates per month, all in service of giving users the insights they want and the access to intelligent phone number data they need.?
We see the nnSR? as a crown jewel not only of our portfolio but of today’s messaging ecosystem. Interested in learning more?
??Across the world, February is known as the month of love, thanks to Valentine’s Day. So, we want to know what you were loving this month: Was it a new tool? New application? New process or protocol? Maybe it was an industry event you went to or a discussion you had — but whatever it was, we want to know about it.?
Let’s share the love!??
