Welcome to the 2nd edition of our monthly newsletter.
?
In this edition we are talking about how to create shared ambition inside a research organisation. Research Strategies Australia has been providing consulting services to the Australian research sector since 2014, and our team has accumulated decades of of experience between us. In this time we have noticed one issue, transcending funding, evaluation, or industry collaboration, that we believe stops research from being more impactful. It's the absence of shared organisational ambition. Due to their reliance on individual project funding, institutions operate in a highly decentralised manner, fostering a culture where research agendas are shaped by personal ambitions over collective goals. As a result, research activities remain fragmented, preventing the formation of a unified, impactful research agenda. The lack of a collective ambition severely hampers the sector's ability to tackle significant challenges effectively, leaving its immense potential for transformative research largely unrealised. We talk about the problem and the solution.
We also share below our regular thought provoking insights from LinkedIn including analysis and strategic insights from our work with clients.
And in company news, we have introduced a discovery-diagnosis service to help clients identify the problems that need addressing before they commit to larger and more expensive consulting projects.
I hope you enjoy this edition, and please make a time to meet with me if you want to work with us or just learn more about anything you read below.

Creating Shared Ambition in a Research Organisation
Research institutions, by their nature, operate in a highly decentralised way.? As a result, they risk being aggregates of individual efforts, driven by personal goals rather than any deeply unifying ambition. Despite often sharing core values, researchers tend naturally to work in silos with little alignment with broader institutional goals or collective aspirations. Without a common direction, the potential for transformative research that addresses the grand challenges of our time remains untapped. Read the article

DISCOVERY-DIAGNOSIS SERVICE
There is always a risk when you engage external consultants. Especially if you use a generic approach to the market to source them.
How do you tell if they are a good fit? How do you know that the scope you start with is the scope you'll need?
We have seen this model fail often.
That's why we have now introduced a rapid introductory discovery engagement for custom projects.
Our discovery-diagnosis is a fixed-priced ($35,000 excl. GST) low-risk approach to completely understand your problem before starting a more significant project, engagement, or long-term relationship.
You get a precise and transparent project with an agreed result of understanding the outlook and specifics of your problem.
We provide you with a roadmap for improvement that can form the basis for a larger engagement, or prepare you for an approach to market, or help you assemble the in-house resources for a DIY solution.
Interested? Make a time to talk.
