Monthly Dose of Dusk #51
Dear Dusketeers,
If you have been following Dusk Network for a while, you are probably?aware that we are all in favor of regulations in the crypto- and fintech space. We have our own ‘Ryan on regulation,’ head of BD, who’s advocating for MiCA. The legislation proposal that has been in the making for quite a while now has been approved by the European Commission and will be leading for the industry.
One of the missed opportunities while creating this regulation was that there were mainly traditional banks and financial institutions - who are already heavily regulated - talking to the policymakers. Especially in the early days of talking legislation, developers or actual products in the space had no seat at the table.
So MiCA isn’t perfect. It still has a lot of uncertainty on certain aspects, children’s diseases in how it could/should/would be applied and by whom. But it definitely is one giant step in the right direction if we want the industry to mature, reach mass adoption in the longer run, and most of all, be perceived by traditional parties as a legitimate innovation that could make an entire ecosystem better, fairer, and more transparent.
After Ryan’s extensive MiCA article series, he, of course, elaborated on what the voting for the legislation will mean for the future. Make sure you give it a listen!
Last weekend, Ryan spoke at ETH Privacy in Istanbul, the Leading Privacy Alliance conference. One of the main takeaways from his speech was that just like when the United States discovered all the opportunities the West had to offer, the road towards there was adventurous, dangerous, and unpredictable; The Wild West. This also applies to our industry; just like in the early days of the internet, we are still discovering what works and what doesn’t. How things can be more efficient, clearer, and have an actual use case. There were no rules for the internet in its early days. There are almost no rules for AI yet. But regulation is inevitable, and it is better to embrace it and talk about it, with all parties involved, than to fight it.
In May, Ryan will share more on privacy at?ETHdam , where he is one of the speakers. The privacy industry has shown that sometimes a fight is needed to help legislation improve for all its users. That we are so used to overregulation and having access to so much unnecessary information, that it is hard to pivot into sharing only what is necessary. But as long as that is the start of every conversation on regulation, the baseline, there is always an opening.
Best,
?

Documentation is an essential part of a software product as it provides all the necessary information to deal with it. But what exactly is this information? And who needs it? This post will guide you through the multi-faceted art of documenting software and show how it can help everyone get the best out of it. This is part one of a two-part series on the importance of documentation and how developers can better document their code and processes.
We all know that breaking the rules is expensive, but the cost of not breaking the rules - that is of staying compliant - is expensive too, and makes the cost of doing business very high. There are a lot of inefficiencies in our current systems, from the long wait times to settle transactions in traditional finance to the inability of users to custody their own assets, there’s a lot of room for improvement and innovation that will benefit both businesses and users.
Our development planning features a Release Cycle of three weeks, providing a consistent stream of updates to the community, developers, and businesses relying on Dusk technology.
