MORE FIRST RESPONDERS DIE BY SUICIDE THAN IN THE LINE OF DUTY
AS MANY AS 75% OF FIRST RESPONDERS ARE DIVORCED - AT LEAST ONCE
Chicago Police have their share of problems with suicide too. In the Windy City, twice as many officers die by suicide than on the job in the line of duty.
Both cities expressed support for their EAP programs. In fact, Chicago doubled the size of EAP from 6 to 12 people - - - for 13,000 officers. Really? NYPD spoke of the excellence of their EAP. So what? For both cities, the suicide crisis continues.
Since 2011, Serve & Protect has places more than 5500 first responders into therapy with trauma therapists. We assure they take the caller's insurance and we personally interview EVERY therapist to be sure they understand the challenges of first responder life. It is a free service.
WE ARE A SAFETY NET. A BACKUP FOR A DEPARTMENT - many first responders DO NOT TRUST EAP. Yet, too many departments insist that their professional use only that resource. First responders have heard rumors, or in some cases real stories about EAP breeching confidentiality without cause.
SERVE & PROTECT IS CONFIDENTIAL. FREE. BY FIRST RESPONDERS FOR FIRST RESPONDERS.
OUR SPOUSE ADVOCATE PROGRAM offers free support for spouses of first responders who too often are left out of training and do not understand what is going on with their loved one - or how to respond.
The point is, we are free, confidential, and perhaps the best last hope first responders afraid to ask for help have at their disposal.
