The month of November with Pehchaan The Street School
November, the second-last month of the year, has a charm that is hard to fathom. This month embarks on the introspection of the year-long musings of individuals and future planning of the succeeding year. It's also time of the year to welcome the winter season.? Late November welcomes the consumption of hot drinks and cozy blankets to become the best friends one can have—which is, you know, how winter becomes all about warming up to its pleasure. Now days may be shorter, nights more pronounced, and outdoor activity somewhat curtailed, but winter does have its charms. This is a period to dive yourself into the beautiful traditions and lively heart of the land. It's November and India is a riot of colors, festivals, and celebrations of all kinds. From Diwali to Children's Day, Indian masses celebrate the month of November with utmost enthusiasm.
November is always a joyride for me because I celebrate my birthday in this exciting month. Like most living beings, the happiness of my birthday usually lasts for a whole month. From planning party destinations to demanding birthday presents, my mind is constantly occupied with the idea of making my birthday the best. However, as I celebrate my 20th birthday, an epiphany struck me. Not all people are privileged enough to even remember their birthday. It is highly disappointing to see that various earthlings are deprived of necessities essential for survival.

Pehchaan The Street School
We are well aware of the fact that the world is an extremely unfair and unjust place to reside. Can our small contribution help make things a bit better? The answer is yes. As tiny little drops come together to create an ocean, the slightest contribution by individuals can bring the biggest of changes. One such organization to make a change in the landscape of education is Pehchaan The Street School. Pehchaan The Street School was started in 2015 with the motto of making education accessible to all by Mr. Akash Tandon and Ms. Kanika Narula. The core team members are Mr. Sam Pillai, Mr. Leejo Joy, and Ms. Monika Wamdev. Pehchaan The Street School has made itself proud by having five volunteers in 2015. The creator of Pehchaan The Street School is dedicated to giving underprivileged children in the slum areas of Delhi, NCR, a free education. With the help of more than 500 dedicated volunteers, the school that began with only 10 underprivileged children today teaches over 1600.
The ideology of Pehchaan The Street School is something that makes it different from other NGOs. The organization emphasizes students’ overall development as responsible adults in addition to their academic enrichment. To ensure the overall development of students, it organizes various counseling sessions with subject matter experts.
Studies are combined with various activities for learning and enjoyment, such as dancing, acting, singing, and painting. At Pehchaan The Street School, volunteers are also responsible for mentoring and guiding students in times of emotional tornado forms within them. This small gesture fosters faith in students, showing them that someone actively listens to their inner voices and concerns.
Students are also provided with vocational training to develop life skills necessary for survival. Soft skills like teamwork and communication skills are encouraged to the fullest. Organizations are making these efforts because it is observed that traditional rote learning approaches, which have no connection to formal education, frequently fail to pique the interest of underprivileged children.
November events
Let us look at various collaborations done for volunteers by Pehchaan The Street and different collaborators in November 2024 for volunteers. The main support of this organization is volunteers, and their role is very significant for the organization’s reputation.
Besides offering academic lessons, volunteers are required to assist students in becoming responsible citizens of society. Most of the underprivileged students got to live in poverty and experience domestic abuse because they had no one to share their stories with. From the expectations placed on a volunteer, one is expected to listen to them, create an environment they need to enable them to be in and offer them the help they need. The variety of the tasks also includes syllabus planning, management of events, fundraising, as well as promotion of the pious task of Pehchaan The Street School in the society.
Volunteers are also involved in issues related to the arts and culture, including organizing art and culture workshops and events that require specialists in the field. Further, volunteers organize various outreach healthcare camps and counseling sessions to create awareness of hygiene and health.

?Blanket Donation Drive
As numerous enjoy the winter, plenty of underprivileged people will view this time as mistreatment. This cold night becomes a daily struggle if they have no access to blankets, proper clothing, or shelter. This has led Pehchaan The Street School to start up the annual Blanket Donation Drive as an opportunity to enlighten and inculcate the joy of giving spirit in everyone.
The idea is simple: put together whatever number of blankets you can and give them away to those children. Imagine how a small amount of 150 rupees would make one feel loved and cared for in the freezing winter. Contributions can come from all walks of life, either by providing blankets or giving money for the purchase of more blankets. It’s not only a drive to raise funds; it also aims at making the masses more responsible and empathetic. Through blanket donations, throw away less and support local businesses.
