Month on the Network: November
At Network Rail we proudly look after Britain’s railway. That’s over 20,000 miles of track, 20 of the country’s biggest stations and lots more.
Keeping passengers and freight moving safely and playing a vital role in supporting communities and the economy.
Here are just some of our stories from the past month …
Upgrading the railway in Scotland
We’re investing £4.2bn in Scotland’s Railway in the next five years to make it safer, greener and more reliable.
Here are five of our biggest projects helping do just that.
Tackling vegetation management with artificial intelligence
We’re always looking to improve and innovate the way we manage the railway for you. Take a look at how we did this recently using artificial intelligence.
Overgrown vegetation next to the railway can be a challenge. Vegetation like trees and fallen leaves can be dangerous to trains and cause train delays.
How our stations help keep you safe
We work hard to make our stations are a safe space for the millions of passengers passing through every day.
The latest OECD Better Life Index shows that nearly a third of people don’t feel safe walking alone at night. We’re using CCTV, bright lighting and highly trained staff to help you feel safe and at ease in our stations.
Bringing you a better Gatwick Airport station
The newly upgraded Gatwick Airport station boasts a range of a new facilities and features – all designed with you in mind.
The number of passengers using the station has risen over time: 14m people used it in 2010, growing to more than 21m in 2019. But the original station was not designed for such vast numbers.
So, we’ve now created a new, second concourse and airport entrance – doubling the space available for your use.
