A Month In...

It's officially been one month since I started at MasterClass. Rewinding back to day one, was I nervous? Heck yes! New people, new processes and new expectations! How quickly did that nervousness go away? It took a few minutes. No, seriously, it was only a few minutes. From the moment I started, I knew this team had my back and would support me.

That support is what has really resonated with me since I started here. I've never seen a team jump so quickly to help another team member out. Slack messages get fired back and forth fast and furious when someone needs a question answered. As is the case with all new employees, you typically have a lot of questions over the first few weeks. My team has answered all of mine, have sent me documentation and have constantly asked how else they can help and support me.

If I rewind back even further to when I was interviewing for the role at MasterClass, this "support" theme was a part of those interviews too. It seemed like everyone I spoke to, explained how great the team was and how they had each others backs. Then it clicked. MasterClass is growing fast. Things change, time moves fast and processes need to be developed. If you can't have a supportive team, the team will flounder. MasterClass recognizes this and hires people who will also be supportive. It is far more about what you can accomplish as a team here, instead of what you can accomplish individually.

I write this article as my Canadian team gets set to go out for breakfast together this morning. The team dynamics at MasterClass are strong and will continue to be a major contributor on our journey to success. I wanted to share these thoughts because I know changing companies can be daunting. I was asked recently on a phone screen how I would describe the people at MasterClass. My response, "they're genuine, they're supportive, they're humble and most of all, they're just really, really nice".

When you join MasterClass, you are joining a wild ride with so much excitement ahead of us. You are also joining an unbelievably supportive team and that can't be underestimated.
