Month of Focus: The 21 Rules of Life - Rule #21 - Never stray from the Way
“The path of the Warrior is lifelong, and mastery is often simply staying on the path.”- Richard Strozzi
The last precept of Miyamoto Musashi’s 21 rules for life is never stray from the way.??What exactly is the way that this legendary warrior and master swordsman was referring to by never stray from the way??
To me, we first have to think about how the man lived his life. To Miyamoto Musashi the way was doing everything in his power to make himself the best warrior/swordsman that anyone in his generation would ever encounter.?
The way for him to become the greatest required a strict obedience to mastering his craft and everything he did evolved around that. He trained for countless hours and he paid attention to the smallest details because in a life or death battle the smalls things matter.?
The state of his mind and body absolutely mattered so therefore the way was mastering a singularity of focus on one thing and everything he did centered around that. Also staying the course of the way required him to dismiss things that were of no value to his pursuit (i.e. the distractions or the frivolous pity thoughts that often hinder our progress).?
Some of the greatest athletes of our generations at one point in time all made countless sacrifices to be great and that’s the way.?

While I might be aware that to be a great warrior, solider or athlete you need singular/laser sharp focus on one thing but we will not be athletes or warriors forever.?
Live the way for a period of time but prepare to learn another way because to really survive and strive in life one most learn to adapt and overcome their past ways to learn something new.?
So take heed to not to become so fixated in mastering just one way because remember one way will not always be the answer all the time, be agile, be formless, have ways instead of one way.?
“When one has reached maturity in the art, one will have a formless form. It is like ice dissolving in water. When one has no form, one can be all forms; when one has no style, he can fit in with any style.”-Bruce Lee?
