Battersea Power Station opens its doors

The transformation of the 42-acre brownfield site around Battersea Power Station has been one of the most ambitious regeneration projects in London for many years.

Buro Happold has been instrumental in the development of Battersea into an innovative mixed-use site, packed with shops, bars, restaurants, entertainment venues, parks and historical spaces. We have also worked on the accompanying extension to London Underground's Northern Line.

How can design choices result in positive mental health outcomes?

10 October 2022 was World Mental Health Day. As consultants in the built environment, we can influence positive mental outcomes for those who work, study, play and live in the buildings, places and environments we help create.

We spoke to our experts to explore the impacts of the choices we make, the importance of environmental factors and how biophilic design can impact both physical and mental health needs.

"Something that is key to good mental health is that people feel they have flexibility, choice and control over their environment" - Toar Sadia

Influencing new sustainable housing in India through collaboration

Urban C:Lab, a research collective from Buro Happold, recently assisted a sustainable development initiative to achieve the objective of building experimental, sustainable houses for communities in Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu, India.

The C:Lab collaboration team brainstormed with teams from the key stakeholders, considering the key question of: ‘How do we deploy sustainable solutions in a society to achieve win-win outcomes for key stakeholders?’

The ‘eco-house’ prototype from Social Change and Development (SCAD) has now formed the basis for future expansion of similar houses for the local community.
