Digital twins and the importance of data

Digital twin technology is increasingly important within the built environment. But do we all understand exactly why and how?

A digital twin is a virtual replica of a physical asset that is driven by data. In the built environment, that physical asset is a building or infrastructure. This article explores how digital twins are used to understand how a building will perform and interact with users.

Urban C:lab - Middle East, Asia and Pacific

A group of Buro Happold's innovative thinkers met in Semarang, Indonesia, to discuss the future challenges they see for our urban environments.

Buro Happold's Urban C:lab programme aims to explore emergent disruption in the built environment, planning and innovating without hierarchy.

The group identified a number of common themes they'll continue to explore in more detail across future meetings, including revitalising ageing urban assets and the importance of mitigating and adapting to climate change.

UP2030: Shaping the vision for climate-neutral cities

By 2050, the European Union (EU) aims to be an economy with?net-zero?greenhouse gas emissions.?UP2030 is an initiative supporting European cities to drive their socio-technical transitions to achieve these targets.

This includes policy development and upscaling city-wide neutrality actions.?Buro Happold experts are building an assessment methodology to assess these urban development projects on?their impacts on climate mitigation and adaptation.

The six new partners will join our now 86-strong global partnership.

The new partners are based across three countries, five offices and a variety of disciplines. They are Alexander Flügge ?(Europe, MEP Engineering), Ana Araújo (UK Buildings, Facade Engineering), Dr James Dickinson ?(UK Cities, Energy Engineering), Mark Lavery ?(Middle East, Structural Engineering), Richard Walder ?(UK Buildings, MEP Engineering) and Rob May ?(UK Buildings, Structural Engineering).

An award winning university project

The?University of Warwick ?Faculty of Arts has been named the?RIBA ?West Midlands Building of the Year 2023.

Buro Happold provided multidisciplinary support towards the project which resulted in a purpose-built, landmark building to house the globally respected Faculty of Arts.
