On Saturday evening, Tyler, the kiddos and I set up the game of Monopoly on our kitchen table and kept rolling the dice, buying properties, and paying fees for hours well into the night.
Our little one, at one point, assigned one of us to handle her affairs so that she could curl up and fall asleep on the couch. She still turned profit, I must add, which just went to show the importance of working smart...
We continued the next morning until the only two remaining moguls in the game were Tyler and our 9-year old. (She ended up going bankrupt due to all the maintenance fees of all of her properties and buildings. But, it wasn't without profound enthusiasm and pride and sheer love for all the money she got to circulate.)
I know that Monopoly can be quite a polarizing game; in fact, I remember playing it as a kid with my parents, and it always felt like there was a cloud of unsaid opinions & judgement hanging above my own enthusiasm and innocent love for money. Wealth. Legacy. It almost felt I was a bad girl for wanting it all.
So while I personally do not believe the capitalism as a system can nor should survive - there are much better, more humane and more sustainable ways of being and living and creating - I want to make sure to instill in our kids a healthier attitude around money; to help develop a growth mindset when it comes to wealth.
It is also important to nurture their awareness of the collective - how can we use resources to not only advance ourselves but help uplift humanity, environment? And how can we seize the opportunity for it even during game time?
Indeed, I do many things much differently now when it comes to parenting, and inspiring a more intentional living and leading.
One other thing that I openly talk to my kids about (besides money and sex - the second of the three no-nos) is politics (which makes the item No.3).
And therefore it was actually my kids who - by asking very specific and challenging questions during the 2020 campaigns - inspired me to take a pause, to take a deeper look, and to seriously assess everything.
It was them who inspired me to finally sit down and put all I had known and learned and experienced, on paper. Will it be a book? What will the structure be? The objective? Will it become a best-seller?
I did not know. And I did not care at the time.
All I knew was there were so many stories, memories, lessons, and observations that needed to be expressed; what I did not know was just how healing the year-long experience of writing this book would end up being.
See, by revisiting places and spaces from the past, I got to literally rewrite it. And with that, shift narrative, change the lens, and perception of how I get to experience life now.
The ideas are now in a tangible form of a published manuscript titled "It Is Not That Simple" and while I embark on the next stage of bringing in the right agent and publisher, I decided to make some of the content available via my blog.
If you are curious and would love to experience the tale of 6 generation, 3 wars and 1 woman's cross-continental quest to reclaim her Primal Power, I invite you over to www.makeyourlifeyourlegacy.com/book
In addition to it being a legacy piece for my girls, I also hope to this also gets to be a start of a potential dialogue with women who may have and understand the concepts, but not yet the courage to apply them and step into them.
I especially want to share this story with women out there who might be feeling that they're alone on their journey of changing, evolving, releasing, healing, and raising.
Women who have found the courage to go against the grind, who no longer are willing to hear that there’s something wrong with them just because their soul desires more, something different than what they are told to be settled for with gratitude and grace.
Yes, we ran with the wolves; we ate, prayed, and loved; we got untamed; we became. And there are still so many opportunities for us to keep exploring topis like:
Hope to see you there,
Sara
P.S.: Speaking of stories and sharing insights, ideas, and influence...
One of the most powerful ways to get in front of people who seek what we have to offer; who need to hear our stories; and who love being inspired and empowered by the ideas we get to share, is through publicity.
And it's actually much easier to get from being the best-kept-secret, a hidden-gem to a household name, than we think! And also way less scary!
Think writing for publications. Getting featured in the articles and interviews. Being on radio, TV, and doing podcast interviews. Speaking at summits and events. Sharing your message, your gifts, your ideas, your time-tested solutions that can really help people...
I don't know if you knew that, but I hold a degree in journalism and public relations! And while I dipped my toes in the profession for a hot minute, I do much more work related to it now, as a coach, mentor, and consultant.
And, despite it all, there are still some nuances that I had learned along the way that made pitching the media, booking interviews, delivering the value, and consequently gaining more audience and paid clients - easier. Even for an introvert... well, witchy ambivert... like myself.
One of the experts I have learned so much from and whose journey I've been following over the years, is Selena Soo. And this year, I decided to partner up with her and help promote the 7th annual launch of her signature program Impacting Millions!
What does this mean for you?
Well, if you follow me here on LinkedIn, you'll be able to receive all the goodness I will be sharing over the next couple of weeks: Selena's valuable insights, ideas, frameworks, templates and training on publicity, media exposure, and consequently, positioning, marketing & sales... Along with some exclusive bonuses delivered by yours truly.
You can also sign up to receive it all directly into your inbox, if that's easier. In that case, you can find a simple sign-up form right here.
