Monkeypox: A brief guide to cleaning and decontaminating using ProXcide?
As part of The Inivos Update, we share information about the monkeypox virus and discuss guidance for environmental cleaning and decontamination.
What is monkeypox?
Monkeypox is a rare disease caused by infection with monkeypox virus and is not easily spread between people.
Monkeypox virus is a Vaccina virus and belongs to the Poxvirus family.?It is not a direct ancestor to Smallpox.
How is it spread?
The virus can enter the body through broken skin (even if not visible), the respiratory tract, or the mucous membranes (eyes, nose, or mouth).?
Whilst it is uncommon for the virus to spread from person-person, the greatest environmental?risk is from clothing or linens (such as bedding or towels) used by an infected person.?
How can Inivos help with environmental cleaning and decontamination??
Our mission?is to enable hospitals to deliver better care, faster, by enabling facilities to protect people from infection.
After contaminated clothing and linens have been removed, the rooms can be cleaned and disinfected as per standard terminal cleaning of an isolation room. The monkeypox virus will be destroyed through the use of?hospital detergents followed by disinfection with 1000ppm available chlorine (sodium hypochlorite).?As an alternative, 5000ppm available chlorine may be used on its own. The user should decide which is appropriate for the surface. Pay particular attention to frequently touched surfaces such as tables, door handles, toilet flush handles and taps.?
After manual cleaning, Monkeypox and other enveloped dsDNA's can be easily inactivated by hydrogen peroxide vapour (HPV) and ultraviolet-C light (UV-C).
ProXcide?, our fully automated robotic decontamination technology, uses our unique vapour dispersal technology to deliver ProXcin??– vaporised 7.9% hydrogen peroxide – throughout the room, achieving levels of log6 efficacy in under 2 hours.

In-built software intelligence adjusts every decontamination process to the specific environment around it, ensuring process outcomes are consistent every time.
Safety triggers are also built in that detect issues with the dispersal cycle and motion, such as premature entry into the room, which projects audible and visual alarms. An emergency stop button is also part of the detachable monitor.
To guarantee an efficacious process, the ProXcide? system generates a robust audit trail of your decontamination programme,?including the duration of the process and details of the operator who carried out the work, providing essential?validated assurance.
