Monitoring of cancer patients
When treating a tumor, the main question is whether the chosen therapy is working. Therefore, regular monitoring makes sense.?
A blood test can detect the tumor cells circulating in the bloodstream and determine their number - and this can be done for almost all tumors in the organs. These include, for example, breast cancer, prostate cancer or lung cancer. If the number of circulating tumor cells increases, there is a risk of metastases or recurrence.?
For monitoring with maintrac?, blood is taken every second cycle of chemotherapy or every 3-6 months afterwards - 15 ml is sufficient - and examined for the corresponding circulating tumor cells. If tumor cell counts remain constant or decrease, the treatment is successful. If the number of circulating tumor cells increases, the therapy should be optimized, or further diagnostics should be performed.?
maintrac? thus provides the therapist with an additional tool for regular monitoring of the cancer disease.
A 15 years data analysis shows that patients with decreasing cell numbers have a medium recurrence or metastasis free survival of 8.8 years while those with increasing cell numbers only live about 1 year without.
