MongoDB's new training - the insider view.

For the last year I have been leading a team completely reinventing MongoDB's Instructor Led customer Training (ILT). Prior to that I worked in ramping and ever-greening our Professional Service new-hires (Enablement Manager/Mentor/Trainer).

The starting point and ethos of this new training was not to recycle what we have been using for the last seven years - but to bring to the public public the material we at MongoDB use to train our own people, not only the features but all the real-world advice, tips, tricks and words of caution. A far more opinionated and pragmatic training course.

This has culminated in two new end-to-end programs, one for Developers and one for Operations (with Devops doing the union of both). This has a daily progression and two levels: Lecture/Classroom/Exercise based "Foundation" training ( "Foundation", like all good foundations means from the ground up - but not lacking in depth, these are deep foundations) and Instructor led hands-on Advanced workshops for those who have completed the "Foundation" training - these are mentally challenging and really test, reinforce and extend your understanding of the lecture materials.

Along with this we also created the MongoDB Certified Developer Program (MCDP) with a final assessment and a meaningful professional developer certification - this 100% hands on , you write a few thousand lines of assessed code to meet a given specification both functional and 'customer wish list' we then verify you have written it using all the correct techniques you have been taught in prior classes. We are sure that if you succeed in getting this, you can build efficient, high quality, maintainable MongoDB applications.

Currently the Foundation Training and two of the Advanced Workshops are available to buy by the seat as public training. For the rest you would need to contact MongoDB sales and enquire.

The certification is currently only being offered as part of an intensive 3 week, 120 hour private course as it requires you to complete all the material whilst being supervised. PeerIslands and a UK digital consultancy firm are the first two organisations to put a cadre through this.
