MongoDB Unveils Vision for Realm Development Platform

Realm and the MongoDB Stitch serverless platform merge to empower developers to work with data throughout the development lifecycle.

MongoDB, Inc. (NASDAQ: MDB), leader in next-generation general-purpose data platforms, today marks its entry into a new era of web and mobile development by unveiling its project for Realm, a company acquired in May 2019. The famous base mobile data and synchronization platform will therefore merge with the MongoDB Stitch serverless platform under the Realm brand. The goal? Make it easier for developers to work with data throughout the application lifecycle, from front-end to back-end. MongoDB's raison has always been to provide developers with a database that allows them to devote all of their efforts to building quality applications.

"By buying Realm, we want to extend this commitment to the development of web and mobile applications that stir high volumes of data, ”said Eliot Horowitz, CTO and co-founder of MongoDB. By combining the strengths of Stitch with those of Realm's mobile database and synchronization platform, it can significantly simplify the work of developers at every layer of the stack. They will be able to work with the data more easily, they will also be able to move it seamlessly from edge devices to the back end. Realm's synchronization protocol will be connected to the MongoDB Atlas cloud database in the back-end. For developers, Realm Sync will thus become a powerful tool that will allow them to connect their data to the equipment running their applications.

By integrating the MongoDB family, Realm is positioning itself to become the de facto database for mobile developers and the ideal tool to create real-time data applications for browsers and iOS and Android devices. Just as MongoDB highlighted the shortcomings of traditional tabular databases in handling a new kind of data, Realm has reinvented the mobile world with a better solution than relational databases and proprietary data stores on the edge. The chemistry between Realm and MongoDB and the resulting synergies can only be good news for developers. We at Green Apex are excited to utilise combination for our future projects with our in house MEAN experts.
