1. Vauxhall Corsa

The UK’s best-selling car in 2021, the?Vauxhall Corsa?has remained the best-selling car in 2022 thus far too.
Available with efficient petrol and diesel engines, plus an?electric car?version, the Corsa-e, which has a 50kWh battery that makes it capable of travelling 222 miles (WLTP official range) between charges. What’s more is that it’s the most powerful version of the Corsa available, thanks to its 136bhp electric motor that can deliver acceleration of 0-60mph in just 7.6 seconds.
The beauty of the Corsa is that it’s available in a trim to suit most drivers. Whether you just want a cheap first car that gets you on the road or you want a compact family car that’s easy to live with.?Insurance groups?for the latest 2022 Vauxhall Corsa start at 3 and don’t go much higher than 10 (1 being the cheapest and 50 being the most expensive). There’s even a turbocharged version of the combustion engine Corsas that give a bit more pep when you put your foot down.
2. Hyundai Kona

As a small?SUV, the?Hyundai Kona?finds itself battling with some great cars – the?Ford Puma?is fun to drive, the?Volkswagen T-Roc?is comfortable, and the?Skoda Kamiq?is the king of practicality.
So, where does the Hyundai Kona sit then? Well, it’s easily one of the most economical of the bunch. With incredibly low CO2 emissions (137g/km), the mild hybrid Kona, which is one of our customers’ favourite cars to lease, is a great option if you want to reduce your vehicle emissions while keeping the convenience of a combustion engine car.
A 48V battery pack is enough to support with short bursts of acceleration without using fuel. However, you won’t be able to drive long distances on electric power alone.
There’s a good amount of onboard tech in the Kona that you’ll benefit from too. A 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster is in there which is crisp and clear, while the similarly sized infotainment screen is one of the best in the class, with quick responses and clear graphics.
With that being said, there is a 100% electric Hyundai Kona available to lease, with a 39kWh or 64kWh battery option. The former has an official range of 155 miles between charges, or the chunkier latter option has a longer range of around 258 miles between charges. It also comes with a more futuristic design on the outside that lets you and others know that you’re driving something modern.
3. Kia Sportage

Kia?recently announced that they had become the UK’s top car brand, having sold 32,119 units year-to-date, more than any other manufacturer.
A lot of this success is down to the popularity of the car picture above, the?Kia Sportage, which was the best-selling SUV in March 2022 and has continued to be a roaring success with families and raised car fanatics alike.
So, what’s to like about the Kia Sportage? I think a better question is, what’s not to like? After the latest fifth generation model was released in the summer of 2021 on the brand’s newest N3 platform, the answer to that is ‘not much’.
Safety systems have been updated so that there’s autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-centring assist, plus a blindspot collision avoidance system. On top of this, Kia threw in a bunch of cosmetic updates that really spruced up the look and feel of this car. New ‘boomerang-style’ headlights, a sportier grille and more practical dimensions that allow for more passenger space in the back.
4. Volkswagen T-Roc

A new version of the award-winning?Volkswagen T-Roc?is now available to buy or lease, and it’s been given even more improvements. A better, more luxurious interior and greater tech upgrades have been coupled with refreshed styling.
From both a redesigned dashboard and the use of even higher-grade materials throughout, you can get the latest T-Roc in three trims.
The entry-level Life, luxury and comfort-focused Style, and sportily-styled and driver-focused R-Line – as seen on a number of other Volkswagen models. Even the Life benefits from LED headlights; an 8.0-inch Digital Cockpit; wireless App Connect through its 8.0-inch Ready 2 Discover infotainment system; a suite of driver assistance systems including Lane Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control and Front Assist; and 16-inch ‘Chester’ alloy wheels, black roof rails and interior ambient lighting.
5. BMW 1 Series

As a long-standing champion of the premium family?hatchback?class, the?BMW 1 Series?is now in its latest third-generation guise, which is very nice indeed.
Inside it’s roomier than the previous generation, while a new front-wheel drive setup replaces the old rear-wheel drive spec. Some enthusiasts were outraged by this, but it doesn’t impact performance anywhere near this reaction suggests. In fact, it feels more suited to the car and is more agile for it.
What’s more is that there’s a great choice of petrol and diesel engines to choose from, some of which have the option of?BMW’s?fantastic xDrive four-wheel drive for improved traction and performance.
One thing you won’t need to worry about in the latest BMW 1 Series range is technology. Inside there’s a lot of tech borrowed from the fantastic?BMW i3?electric car. This includes a 10.3in infotainment screen that is operated by pressing icons on the touchscreen?or using the rotary iDrive controller and shortcut buttons by the gear lever.?
As many of you probably know, the iDrive system is the best interface to use when you’re driving?because it’s much less distracting. For us, it’s a better setup than in the?Audi A3’s?touchscreen-only setup. It’s also easier to use than the?Mercedes-Benz A-Class’s?touchpad controller, but that’s a good second. You can also use the 1 Series’ voice recognition?or optional gesture control to navigate your way through the system.
