Moneycorp Ireland's 10th birthday

On January 28th 2013, we opened up the Irish branch of Moneycorp. As our LinkedIn profile pics demonstrate, we have not aged a single day since then.

All we had at the time were the shirts on our backs and the financial support of a multi-billion pound private equity fund. Despite being a well-established & successful business in the UK, brand recognition in Ireland was low. One friend of mine said that we sounded like an evil bank from The Simpsons.

We had no clients, no revenue and perhaps crucially, no shame. Friends & contacts were harassed into opening accounts and giving us a chance. Our VOIP telephony system of the time was prone to dropping calls if one of us opened up a PDF file that was > 1Mb in size. We noticed the water in our premises had a decidedly brown sheen to it and upon further investigation we discovered a dead bird in our water tank. Extensive negotiations were conducted between thirsty staff and our CEO Bryan McSharry that culminated in Bryan reluctantly signing off on a deal for filtered water at a cost of €28 per month.

The story since then has been eventful.

We now find ourselves as the European headquarters for Moneycorp, with hugely successful businesses in Spain & Romania, and have added to our European stable by opening up our French branch last September. We are all so grateful for the support of the executive team and many wonderful staff in our Group HQ in London and right across the Moneycorp group, as well as that of our owner, Bridgepoint Plc. The group has established a truly global footprint, with banking licences & payment operations across the entire international payments & foreign exchange industry.

The face & shape of our business has changed considerably over the course of these last 10 years. Our success has always been, and always will be, dependent on the quality & commitment of our staff and the strength of our relationships with clients. Many individuals & businesses that had never heard of Moneycorp gave us a chance to show them what we could do. We remain grateful for your support back then, and we value & appreciate your business now. Thank you.
