MoneyBall Marketing: Can You Make Client Acquisition More Predictable?

I'm sure you've probably heard the argument already...

Real umpires vs. Robo umpires in baseball.

In a minute I'll get to why this is going to change the way you look at marketing...

The other day I'm in the car listening to Philly sports radio hosts debate robo umps vs. real umps.

...and if you're from Philly you know how entertaining these radio debates can be with callers.

One caller made a great point...

MLB teams are already using advanced technology to perform shifts in the field - essentially positioning fielders in areas where a batter will most likely hit a ball based on thousands of percentages and simulations.

Whether you're for robo umps or not...you have to admit that it's pretty compelling to see how many hits are taken away from batters because fielders were positioned in spots where a batter is statistically more likely to hit a ball.

They are positioned in the right place at the right time.

Now...what if we could apply this "Money Ball" tactic to your marketing?

Think about on LinkedIn alone - more specifically in Sales Navigator - how much information is available at your fingertips.

You can literally find any decision-maker in any industry, at any company, in any country...all in one place.

But finding them is the easy part...

The harder part is positioning yourself to attract that ideal client type to your offer.

Much like a baseball fielder positions themselves so they are in a spot where a batter will statistically hit the ball in that given situation.

The secret to playing "money ball" with your marketing is how the message on the profile positions you to an elevating status when connecting with people you want to work with.

Your message should include three key elements:

Status?- You're in a greater than - or equal - position of power as your ideal client

Pain?- You clearly mirror the BIG challenge or pain your ideal client experiences

Intrigue?- You have a new and novel way to alleviate the BIG pain or challenge your ideal client experiences

Client acquisition becomes more predictable when you're positioned in front of the right prospects with a message that is designed to act as a magnet to attract.

And you don't need the whole profile to tell this story...

In fact, this can take less than 10 words to attract your ideal client.

Most people overlook the Headline - located underneath your name on LinkedIn. You can easily convey status, pain, and intrigue.
