Money Talks # 81???? - What can we do now?
When I was in 8th grade, one morning I was sitting in front of my books, thinking about my upcoming exam. I was overwhelmed with worry and started crying. My mother noticed me weeping while she was going about her daily routine. She came over, gently touched my head, and asked, "What's wrong?"
I told her, "My exam is today, and I haven’t studied anything. I don’t think I’ll get a single answer right."
She calmly asked, "When did the teacher finish the syllabus?"
I replied, "A long time ago."
She continued, "And when was the exam date announced?"
"About two weeks ago," I answered.
"Then why didn’t you study in all this time?" she asked. I didn’t have an answer.
Seeing my distress, she reassured me, "Don’t worry. Study whatever you can now. Go and appear for the exam, even if you fail—it’s okay. But after it’s over, make sure to come back and finish learning those lessons."
This simple yet powerful advice resonates even today, especially for those of us who are managing adult responsibilities like earning and dealing with financial burdens.
Sometimes, we feel disheartened about our debts or our inability to afford the things we want. But just like my mother said, we can’t go back and undo the past. What we can do is start now.
Take control of your finances—plan for what you want, identify the actions you can take, and start with one small step today. Keep going, and you’ll build a better financial future, one step at a time.
