Money Talk on RTHK Radio 3 - Tuesday 22 November 2016

There is still no official green light from the regulators on the launch of HK-Shenzhen stock connect. Some commentators are speculating that concerns are mounting in Beijing over capital outflows from the mainland if the link is started in the current environment. The weakening RMB, which was fixed lower by the PBOC for the 12th consecutive day, the longest losing streak ever, are adding to worries that the strong dollar and volatile financial markets are combining to make a launch this month unattractive. Speaking on Monday’s Money Talk, Alex Wong of Ample Capital said that the timing is not good for a launch and if it were launched now it would see a very low usage because of the uncertain market.

On Tuesday’s Money Talk we shall be keeping an eye on the local and international business and finance news and hearing analysis from Connie Bolland, founder of Economic Research Analysis and Andrew Peaple, deputy Asia finance editor at the Wall Street Journal. We shall also have our regular Tuesday View from Japan. Nick Smith, Japan strategist at CLSA in Tokyo will join us for that.
