Money Talk on RTHK Radio 3 - Monday 25 April 2016
Peter Lewis
Financial Services Thought Leader & former host of “Money Talk†one of the most listened to English Language Radio Programmes in Hong Kong.
I'm looking forward to returning for a new week of Money Talk tomorrow. Last week was a good one for commodities. Brent crude oil rallied 8% to a 5 month high and iron ore surged to its highest level in 15 months. Meanwhile trading in steel futures contracts in Shanghai hit a record high. However, disappointing US first quarter earnings have left equities struggling for direction. This week’s financial market action will be dominated by the US Federal Reserve monetary policy ...meeting and a flood of earnings reports including from tech giant Apple, along with Facebook and Amazon. The Bank of Japan also meets later this week following talks that it will offer negative interest rate loans to financial institutions to encourage them to lend. In other news, US President Barack Obama has weighed in on the ‘Brexit’ debate. In China it has emerged that Apple’s iTunes and Disney services have been shut down by the regulator in a crackdown on online publishing services. George Soros joins those voices expressing concern about the level of corporate debt in China. Whilst in Hong Kong the “Panama Papers†have ensnared the Hong Kong innovation minister and Polytechnic University.
We shall look at all the latest business headlines and preview the week ahead in the financial markets with our guests Alex Wong of Ample Capital and HSBC economist John Zhu. We shall also go up to the mainland to get a view on the latest business, financial and economic developments there with Pete Sweeney of Thomson Reuters in Shanghai. Please join me for Money Talk from 8 on Monday morning on RTHK Radio 3.
