The Money Talk Challenge

This month, I want you to talk to someone else about your finances and break the "Money Talk" Taboo!?

A Problem Shared is a Problem Solved!?

During a Money Moves course, a student volunteered to share her list of expenses. When she got to her broadband and television fee, an audible gasp went around the room.??“Girl! You’re paying how much?”?

That evening, the group worked together to help her plan her conversation with her provider. She walked away with talking points and key figures. Imagine if she’d stayed quiet! That one act of bravery saved her a couple of hundred pounds.

?Crowdsourcing can be a Solution

Martin Lewis, the bargain guru behind Money Saving Expert, has turned to the crowd for ideas. When gas prices rose last month, he recognized that many of his readers needed a whole new approach to keeping warm. He turned to an unusual source of insight - not his team of experts, but instead his thousands of followers.?

We don’t need one idea. We need a mountain of them.

?Talk About Budgets, but Make it a Party!?

My first budget party was totally unplanned. I had a friend visiting during the time I normally sat down to review my finances. When I mentioned it to her, she expressed an interest in doing the same. We cranked up the tunes, poured ourselves a glass of wine, and dove in, sitting side by side. You know what? It was a LOT more fun than going through spreadsheets on my own.?

When it comes to money, don't forget to keep asking questions. Find people you trust (friends, family, colleagues, etc.) and have those "Money Talks." It'll get easier the more you do it and it'll help you A LOT in your financial wellness journey!?

Love this challenge - I hear a lot from people about the value of realising “you’re not alone” when they open up about money. It really can be transformational!
