Money for Nothing. Working for Nothing.
I like to work on meaningful things. I'll spend my time and my own dime to do things that are good and great, things that are valuable and helpful to people.
That's why I've blogged for over 20 years at djchuang.com.
That's why I launched the SocialMedia.Church podcast back in 2012.
That's why I co-founded confoundedly the Erasing Shame podcast in 2018 to have honest talk for healing living—relationally, emotionally, mentally, and personally.
Now I'm in process of launching Christian Asian Mental Health to advance compassion and care among faith communities to bring wellness and goodness for all. (Thanks to Asian American Christian Collaborative for their partnership so we can launch quickly, without having to jump through the hoops to setup yet another nonprofit.)

Like the important value of feeding the hungry, caring for the poor, and many other things the world needs, I do the things I've listed above as a volunteer without pay. Yes of course they add value, just not marketplace value, so they're elusive for me on how to make them pay for my livelihood.
I Enjoy Doing Lots of Pro Bono Work
I know how to start and do projects with no staff and no budget. And I do have bills to pay. I'm not financially independent and I don't have the drive, business acumen, or shrewd interest to learn how to use my wits for becoming wealthy. (How many people get to a number of net worth where they don't have to work any more, anyways? And if they do, would they still be on Linkedin?)
So this isn't a rant or a vent. But I do write this from a posture of honesty and sharing a bit of my dilemma vulnerably, if that's allowed here. Yup, I do know what I want to do, and I know it adds value, to use the venacular I often see here on Linkedin, but I don't have as much free time (or paid time) to do more of what I love to do.
Would you be someone that could help me figure out how to take care of the money side of things, so I can focus on the things that I can do? Let's talk.

2 年Fundraising is part of the solution DJ Chuang you have the quality content created. Direct ask of individuals you know and have long term relationships with God will direct you on who to ask. The topics you have focused on are painful realities for many and an unwillingness to share publicly is part of the challenge. I believe what you create for content is valuable to the community.
