When it comes to retirement, I hear the same questions:
Suze, can I ever afford to stop working? Will Social Security be there for me when I need it? How can I make my money last? Have I waited too long to start saving?
Please listen closely. Stop focusing on what you didn’t do or could have done differently.
Stop beating yourself up about how you should have more, or how you should be in control of your finances at this point in your life. You can’t rewrite history, undo the past, or predict the future.
But, in terms of your money, you have total control. There is so much you can do.
If you are still working, you are in a great position to improve your retirement picture because you still have an income to put toward a variety of goals. For many of you, saving more is a top priority, yet you are struggling to come up with the extra dollars you wish you could be saving.
No matter your situation, if you are working and preparing to retire one day, these are the money moves you need to start making today.
THE MOVES TO MAKE DURING YOUR WORKING YEARS:
- Prioritize paying off all debt before you retire.
- Embrace living below your means.
- Save more for retirement . . . in the right accounts.
- Have a plan to work longer.
- Consider long-term care insurance.
Tomorrow I am releasing my first book after nine years. And I’m going to get honest with you right now. After writing ten books, I had no intention of ever writing another book. Every important financial topic had been covered within those pages.
No matter how many times publishers begged me over the years (since my last book and #1 New York Times bestseller, Money Class, was released) the answer was always NO. If a book was not worth its weight in gold and packed with new advice, tips, and insights there was no way I wanted to write it and no way I was going to ask people to buy it. And I had already written the best advice out there.
Last year I had a major realization. I couldn’t continue to direct questions I kept getting about retirement to any of my previous books for advice—way too much had changed. The financial landscape we are experiencing today is unlike any other time in our history.
From the record-high stock market prices to record-low mortgage rates. Pensions are now a thing of the past and interest rates on savings accounts is almost non-existent. And don’t forget about those new changes to Social Security. No wonder you have questions!
My new book, The Ultimate Retirement Guide for 50+: Winning Strategies to Make Your Money Last a Lifetime, was written to answer all your questions and give you the guidance needed to feel secure in retirement—whether you’re still working or are already retired.
In celebration of my new book hitting the shelves tomorrow, I want to give you a gift for coming along on this journey with me. As a thank you, I hope you enjoy the first full chapter of my audio book! I not only narrate the entire book, but I also went off-script and included even more stories and tips along the way.
The advice and insights within these 320 pages (12+ hours on audiobook) are not only worth their weight in gold, but I am confident that they will lead you to the ultimate retirement.
With all my love and gratitude,

4 年NEW WAY TO TELL EARLY IF SOMEONE COULD HAVE THE VIRUS. I am in S Korea. Here they have discovered that loss of sense of smell is an early warning sign. It was suggested to have a couple of things that a person can smell and check out daily with smelling one of those items. Please spread the word. (My husband and I are in DAEGU. The gate guards at Camp Walker are using this method. Many other places are also using this method.)

4 年Suze Orman, I can't thank you enough for your great advice. I've been following you for over 25 years!! I first saw you on Oprah and loved watching your show every Saturday evening! I just listened to your podcast on my 30 min. walk today (to a local park and back home as we shelter in place). I was very interested in the recent Relief bill that passed and glad you mentioned RMDs for 2020 as that applies to my husband. I will share this with other retirees and people who may not know. Keep up the great work! Subscribed to your podcast today and look forward to reading your new book!! Congratulations!! #longtimefan #covid19 #finances
