I’ve said before that you need to have a higher purpose than just money. If you’re motivated by money, that’s great—I’m for that. I agree with the fact that you need money and should want as much of it as you can get. I’ll even declare that you deserve more money than you currently have, and I believe in the coming months and years you will become massively wealthy if you set your mind to it.
But you need a higher purpose than money. I liked what my good friend Tom Cummins said at 10XGrowthCon 2017 about this:
"People asked you, 'What do you want to be when you grow up? What do you want to be?' I think the more important question is 'What do you want to have?'
If I were to tell you, 'Hey, what are you going to do when you get there?' You'd sit there and you'd go, 'Well, where is there?' Then you could answer my question.
The point I'm trying to describe here is you must paint a picture of where you want to arrive first. What is it that you're trying to achieve? You must totally know what it is that you're going to have, what is it that you want.
It must be crystallized in your mind.
Anyone who has owned a company knows that you spend half the time trying to drain the swamps and having alligators bite at you when the goal is way out there—you have to know what that mountain is that you have your eyes on.
Money is not the end game. If you were able to just project yourself into the future five years from now, paint me a picture. What are you going to have? What is it going to be like? Whatever life that you're living now, anything that you have now, you decided some time ago that's what you wanted."
"No one is in control of your life except for you, but you must paint that picture, you need to know what you want to do." — Tom Cummins, 10X Growth Conference 2017
What my friend Tom Cummins talked about right there is the idea you need to look for that higher purpose—that thing that you want money for. Why do you want the big house for your family? Do you want to raise millions for charity? Do you want to educate people to escape their current conditions? You're looking for the higher purpose.
I want you to drill down what that purpose is today. Why does a guy want $10 million or $20 million or $100 million? Or why does the individual want just $50,000? Look for the higher purpose. Don't get lost in the number. The person that wants just $50,000 and would be satisfied with that, and the person that wants $50 million, and thinks that would satisfy him or her; underneath both of those situations is a purpose—a higher purpose that goes way beyond and way deeper than just $50,000 or $50 million.
As I wrote in my book The 10X Rule, I promise you that whatever goals you have; whether it's $50,000 or $50 million, you are underestimating, way underestimating your full potential.
I want to help you find what that potential can be. Come to 10X GrowthCon 2018 for 3 days of exploring what your end game is and how to get there. Have a purpose higher than just money and you will find your potential.
Be great,
GC
