Money stories, some of which have been passed down for generations, can significantly affect our money mindset and the way we approach money. Money conversations can be difficult, particularly because the money stories we’ve been told don’t really keep up with the changing dynamics of a VUCA world. These skewed money stories show up repeatedly during negotiations while pricing our products/services and all other money-related talks that we do during a sales interaction.

In the most recent episode of Ace the sales, I spoke to Amanda Neely - a Cash Flow Specialist and Host of Grandma's Wealth Wisdom Podcast. In the interview, Amanda shares some great tips on approaching money discussions during sales conversations.

When Amanda shared details of her podcast— “Grandma's Wealth Wisdom Podcast,” I was eager to hear what she thought about good old traditions about money and savings. Amanda responded by saying –

“The biggest thing is that our grandparents did not know the difference between saving and investing and today when a lot of people say that they are saving for retirement, what they really mean is they are investing for retirement. Our grandparents saved a lot more of their money and put a lot less at risk but today we have shifted, almost flipped this mindset and we are willing to take more at risk and save only a little bit.”

What followed next was a profound talk on sales, money and business.
