Money and Community: Let’s Talk About the Connection
Invest for Better
Invest for Better is a nonprofit campaign that provides resources for women to become effective impact investors.
We talk about money and community as if they’re separate things. But the truth is, they are deeply intertwined. At Invest for Better, we say we help women learn to invest and create community—but really, those goals are one and the same.
Because when we talk about investing, we’re talking about shaping the world around us. A world where small businesses thrive, where libraries stay open for every child to discover their love of reading, where clean water and fresh air aren’t privileges but guarantees. A world where people—not just profit—come first.
These things don’t happen by accident. They happen because people choose to invest in them. Small businesses need funding. Affordable housing needs financing. Companies that prioritize sustainability and fair wages need investors who believe in their mission. Every financial choice we make—where we bank, what businesses we support, how we invest—either reinforces the status quo or builds something better.
The same is true for the communities we build. Just like investing with intention, meaningful relationships don’t just appear—they take time, care, and prioritization. We intentionally carve out time for family and friends, and we have to do the same when expanding our communities and directing our money toward the world we want to see. But when we do, the reward is profound: a life of purpose, of connection, of shared success.
Kiersten, a former Circle member and a woman dedicated to teaching others about building wealth, reminds us that true community is diverse—not just in background or perspective, but in the kinds of relationships we cultivate. That’s exactly what happens inside our financial community of women. Through our Circles, women come together to share their money stories, discuss their goals, and realize the power of these conversations.
The impact is twofold: shifting how they view their money and what they believe is possible, while also building deep, lasting relationships. Because when we invest with intention—both in our financial futures and in the people around us—we create something bigger than ourselves. We build a thriving, supportive community. And that changes everything.
At the heart of it, when we invest in our communities and when we invest our money with intention, we’re making a choice—one that prioritizes people over profit. Because if we climb the corporate ladder to the top and find ourselves alone, what was it all for?
And if we invest purely for profit, without thinking about the bigger picture, what kind of world will we be left with? One where small businesses struggle to survive? Where libraries close their doors? Where our air and water are polluted, and the things that make life meaningful—our connections, our relationships, our shared spaces—slowly disappear?
This is why intentional investing and building community go hand in hand. They both take time, effort, and prioritization. But the reward is a world where we don’t just succeed alone—we thrive together. And that’s the kind of wealth that truly matters.
We believe in the power of these conversations and the impact they create. That’s why we’re kicking off our next small-group Circle experience next month—because when women come together to share their money stories, set their goals, and learn from one another, real change happens. We hope you'll join us.
