Money can't buy you performance "Daniel H. Pink"

As Daniel H. Pink greatly expressed, "Money can't buy you performance". After people being fairly and sufficiently compensated, rewards in the forms of bonus, incentives, or salary raise won't encourage them to perform better.

To ensure high performance and innovative results, you need to create MOTIVE. As per Pink, motive is being created through 3 main steps "Purpose, Mastery and Autonomy". In other words "Why, What and How"

Purpose "Why": Ensure full alignment between Business strategic goals and personnel contribution to it. Make sure that you highlight the value that your employees add to achieve the bigger goal. This step mainly concentrates on focusing on results and bigger picture.

Mastery "What": The next attribute in results is Mastery; How can we best help people pursue and achieve mastery of their professions?. There's more than one way to achieve this, my favorite is "Skills Matrix board". By this tool, you'll be able to assess your team skills, knowledge and interest to implement what they have on their daily work. With Assigning advanced projects and allowing innovative contributions, you'll have a T shaped employees (A T-shaped employee is someone who can do it all— he/she has broad skills across many areas (the horizontal part of the T), but also deep expertise in one particular topic (the vertical piece).

Autonomy "How": Autonomy and empowerment are crucial pieces of the performance management puzzle. Autonomy is best served by employee empowerment. Members of autonomous teams desire the ability to make decisions in an entrepreneurial climate without too much managerial interference. Empower your people to design their work plan based on the result required and let them try different innovative approaches till they reach the desired outcome.
