Money Is Not All That Matters In A New Role

I am in the midst of interviewing at two very different places for two very different roles.?
On one hand, I have a high-power focused marketing role at a top bank.? I will work in a high rise and have to move two hours away.
On the other is a jack-of-all-trades marketing role for a small Italian engineering firm looking to build a presence in the US.? They are based in a small town about an hour’s drive away from me.
The starting salary is approximately the same, but what each company will eventually offer me if I land the role could be very different.? And I have to take into account expenses incurred such as moving expenses and higher cost of housing et al.
They are both great jobs that have their pluses and minuses.
The role at the bank could potentially pay more.? They have listed their median salary, and it is a pretty strong number.? Additionally, it is in a bigger city where I could reinvent myself.? I could make new friends and found new outlets for my energy such as take up karting.
The role at the engineering firm would allow me to stay closer to my widowed mother.? It would also give me a chance to travel and meet new people.? Additionally, I am in the midst of helping found a local chapter of CASA.? While I can always sign up with the big city chapter, the local one might not make it without my direct support.
I hope that I do not have to choose between the two.? I put into God’s hands.? It is He who guides my path.
One of the minuses of the local role is that I am expected to pick up clients at the airport.? That is a bit of a problem as I do not own a vehicle large enough carry more than one passenger.? Are they going to provide me with a full-size SUV?
When looking at a new role there is much to consider and a lot of it has little to do with money.? If money is your deciding factor, then maybe it requires some reconsideration.
If you wish to change your time, you need to consider the impact that each role will allow you to make. ?It is not just in the office or through your role.? It is about how you spend your free time.? What resources are available to make an impact?
Taking a hard look at the local churches could give you an idea of what is available. ?Some shallow, seeker-friendly churches have loads of programs, but they are of little impact.? Conversely, a well-grounded church may have fewer people and fewer programs.? It does not mean that you cannot start one as long as you understand the financial constraints.
While I do not have a local church that does not preclude me from joining one between my home and the new local job.? And there could be other Christians in my workplace that can help me find a well-grounded church.
Just remember to look beyond the obvious when considering a role so that you can best equip yourself to change your time.
