MONDAY MUSINGS

It's Teacher Appreciation Week and many of us will buy food, gifts, or hold a special event to say thank you to our teachers. Yet we continue to see teachers leaving the field in record numbers. Take a moment then, to think about any of the relationships you have. Spouse, parents, children, cousins, friends, co-workers, etc. How do you make and then keep those relationships healthy? Is it by appreciating them one day or one week a year? Or do you maintain those relationships throughout the years by listening to what they say, helping them through hardships, celebrating their successes, and acknowledging them on a frequent basis?
One of the issues I see most frequently is the disconnect between owners/administrators and the teachers working the front lines.
Teachers working without the materials and supplies they need to do their jobs successfully.
Teachers working without administration supporting their growth and development as practitioners.
Teachers working without adequate compensation while administrators and owners jet around the world.
Making teachers feel woefully replaceable.
Turn that narrative around and make teachers feel heard, understood, supported, and compensated and they won't leave.
Imagine what a world it could be!
