MONDAY MUSINGS SEASON 2 - PREFACE

MONDAY MUSINGS SEASON 2 - PREFACE

Monday Musings Season 1’ posted over a period of 25 weeks in 2018 was a great success, Success simply from the fact that I gained invaluable knowledge from this!. It was my maiden attempt as an Author and this has successfully culminated in a book `Management Immemorial – Learnings from Literature’. I enjoyed the experience and gained innumerable wisdom from this experience. `Monday Musings’ came consistently every Monday. Many people asked me `How am I able to manage my time to get time every Sunday for 25 Sundays to complete `Monday Musings’. The fact that I was able to do this consistently taught me a new lesson `

SUCCESS DOES NOT COME FROM WHAT YOU DO OCCASSIONALLY
IT COMES FROM WHAT YOU DO CONSISTENTLY -   Marie Forleo
Make your sporadic brilliance a consistent habit.  This is a great recipe for success.

I gave temporary pause to Monday Musings to take time to complete the book `Management Immemorial’. Now that the book has been released, I am excited to restart `Monday Musings’ in a new avatar `Monday Musings – Season 2 : Grandma stories for success’. I am hoping to make writing a habit. I shall strive to post `MONDAY MUSINGS Season 2’ every Monday without fail and delay.

Why `Monday Musings’?? (extract from my book MANAGEMENT IMMEMORIAL)

Motivational Mondays

Many of you would have heard of the famous or infamous expression TGIF,i.e.,Thank God It’s Friday (or Thank Goodness it’s Friday). The idea is to create commercial euphoria about weekend entertainment. There are restaurants, bars, even TV programs on TGIF.

The unintended upshot is of course Oh God, It’s Monday. When I ask for a meeting, generally people don’t prefer Mondays. When there is a choice, it always gets pushed to Tuesdays or Wednesdays. Mondays aren’t usually the favorite day of the week. Attendance and participation expected to be poor on Mondays and Fridays. But I have different perspective.

What if you want to set a meeting time to optimize performance and not just attendance? Research into fatigue and behavior suggests that the time of day makes a difference in how we process information. As the week progresses and the day wears on, we tire, and that affects our decisions. This is known as `Decision Fatigue’. Decision fatigue is applicable for everyone. What is Decision fatigue?

Decision Fatigue is the deteriorating quality of decisions made by an individual after a long session of Decision Making.

In my experience, the best time for a weekly meeting is Monday mornings. In my company, we schedule our weekly review meeting on Monday mornings, probably a little later in the morning, say around 11 a.m. to get enough time for preparations. I find energy levels high and better participation during this time.

We should ideally make it WHIMWow! Happy It is Monday!

I am neither an idealist nor a tyrant. I am not suggesting seven days of work nor am I saying that breaks or holidays are not important. I understand that taking a break is important for holistic life. I too have passions beyond my profession. I enjoy my holidays and I enjoy taking break with the family.

Let us flip it around. Rather than spending a week with expectations for the weekend, can we look forward to weekends as the time to ponder and recharge ourselves for the upcoming work week?

I look forward to Mondays. I look forward to the day when I would resume work.

Look forward to Mondays. It is the day to get back to your passion.

MAGNIFICENCE OF MUSINGS

Musings form part of a powerful and pertinent title in this series. Musings as per Cambridge Dictionary means, thoughts or comments on something you have been thinking about carefully and for a long time.”

There is  significant difference between ?????? (ennam), which is the translation of thought, and ??????? (chinthanai), which is the translation of musing.

Thoughts are not synonymous with musings.  Musing is much more powerful than thought. Musings are focused and considered thoughts, developed over a period of time. We need to practice to ‘muse’ quite often. I have heard people saying that they get powerful ideas while musing alone, sitting in a quiet ambience. I make it a practice to ‘muse’ for a few minutes on a daily basis. This is a useful and powerful practice for our mind. So much so that our Vedas proclaim that the Supreme Lord created the Universe as an outcome of his musings.

Thoughts will only come to the person who has the ability to achieve the same. If you are getting any thought, don’t ignore it. Muse and work on your thought seriously because thoughts select people. You have the potential to achieve and that is why the thought has chosen you. Thought itself has the power of attracting the resources to fulfill the process.

“You are today where your thoughts have brought you. You will be tomorrow where your thoughts take you.”   - James Allen

MONDAY MUSNGS - Season 2 will start with a story, an Indian story narrated to us by the genre of Grandmas & Grandpas – the most effective mentor for every average Indian. Grandma stories are very useful anecdotes for personality development apart from the usually perceived dimensions of morality, values, dharma, etc.

Let us start the exciting journey from 13th May 2019 with an interesting story of the `Teen boy who sought purpose in karma (duty) and pursued relentlessly until he gained the knowledge he dreamt of’. Nachiketa??
