Lord Ram’s assessment of Hanuman on their first meeting- "He has orderly refinement and pronunciation with a flow that is remarkable and un-delaying, and he speaks positive / soothing words that are heart-pleasing”

Skill 9 – Adbuthaam, Flowing to a Marvel

Adbhuthaam means Marvellous, astonishment, etc. If you achieve flow in your speech, your speech will be a remarkable speech. Correct pronunciation, good pitch, tone and orderly flow are essential elements of a remarkable speech.

#FlowingSpeech

You will need to make a few adjustments in your speech to achieve flow. Your jaw movements need to ensure that words flow together. You may feel as if you are saying one long word made up of a few syllables instead of several words.

For instance, the phrase ‘put it on your end’ will have a flowing rhythm. So, ‘put it on’ joins together nicely as putiton.

There are many techniques to enhance your speech to a marvelous speech

1.???? Right pronunciation and accent

2.???? Appropriately connecting the words and sentences.

3.???? Chaining you to bullet points:?Plan your speech but don’t be obsessive about your plan. Keep a structure but allow the flow to be natural. Most times it’s the moments we deviate from our course is when we seem the most human and likeable. Even though you need structure, don’t forget to leave a bit of wiggle room

4.???? Presentation slides would help to structure the flow but avoid reading from the slides. Slides can be prepared to give cue for your flow but not as a speech text. The speech will be dreary, and the audience would lose interest.

5.???? A powerful way to build intensity is #storytelling. The best speakers often use stories as a powerful tool for demonstrating and bringing to life a key message.

6.???? Make your speech humorous and lively

7.???? Involve your audience in your speech rather than monotonous one-way delivery.

8.???? Get the balance correct ie using the right amount of the right type of information.

9.???? Connect the dots. Take your audience on a journey, pointing out interesting features and building excitement for them. Don’t just dump information on them, that’s not much better than reading them a grocery list. If your audience do feel that your talk is building towards something, they’ll just stop listening.

Undelayed – Doubly important

I had already explained the trait avilambithaam ie not delayed in the earlier sloka. This is a repeat.

You can speak well if your tongue can deliver the message of your heart ~ John Ford

Skill 10 – Speak Positive, truthful and soothing words

It is not sufficient to have a marvelous speech applauded by everyone, but your speech should be comforting and useful to your audience.

Direct translation of kalyaneem is auspicious and hrudaya harshaneem means ‘soothing to hear’. We can easily interpret these as positive, truthful and soothing to others. #SpreadPositivity.

Words have incredible power. They can make people’s hearts soar, or they can make people’s hearts sore ~ Dr Mardy Grothe

Make more hearts soar and not sore hearts with your positive words.

Words are powerful. Words can build a big city and can destroy castles. Same sentiment expressed by Thiruvalluvar in #Thirukkural.

???????? ????????? ????????? ????? ???????? ????? ???. Thirukkural 129

The fire-burnt wounds do find cure, but harsh words create permanent sore.

Everything coming out from human body stinks. We have control only over our thoughts, words and actions and let us make them positive and useful.

Great speakers are not born, they're trained ~ Dale Carnegie

All of us can become great speakers following the advice of Lord Ram.

Praveen Kumar won gold medal for India in men's high jump T64 event at Paris Paralympics making his story one of unbeatable motivation.

His left leg being shorter and weaker because of a congenital impairment didn’t deter a young Praveen Kumar from doing what he loved the most as a child, cycling with his friends. He would cycle 14 kilometres daily, using his right leg mainly, to reach school — from his village Gobindgarh to Jewar.

“Never did he complain about any physical discomfort because of cycling, He hardly complained otherwise too” Praveen’s father Amarpal ,a tube well operator said. “When he was born with the leg impairment, we raised him like any other child. That helped him have a positive attitude all his life,” Amarpal added.

Praveen, who grew up battling insecurities due to his impairment, took to volleyball before discovering his talent in the high jump, which paved the start of his incredible journey in para sports. This experience exposed him to the vast opportunities available for athletes with disabilities, igniting a new and inspiring trajectory in his journey.

Height is a catalyst for high jumpers. Despite being just five foot and five inches tall, Praveen soared over 1.70 meters just a couple of years after getting formal coaching. Praveen credited his family for his success, saying his parents always wanted him to achieve a personal best irrespective of whether he returned with a medal or not. 'Before I took off for the 2.08m jump that fetched me the gold medal, I closed my eyes and saw my parents and coach urging me to go for the record. I thought they had always wanted me to win the gold here,' added Praveen.

Nothing can stop you from your dreams, be it your height or your financial status. It does not matter if one leg is short and weak, Praveens of the world consistently prove the world that there is always another leg and you can do wonders using that strong leg. Praveen’s positive attitude gave another gold for India.
